Guys, from someone who is actually "in the know" with the 997TT: The 997TT will be rated at 480-500 HP (probably more in reality), top speed will be around 200 mph and it will accelerate from 0-125 in a hair over 12 seconds. The 997TTS will be rated at about 525 HP (we can only guess its true power), have a top speed of about 203 mph and accelerate from 0-125 in under 12 seconds. If that is disappointing, you might want to buy a Viper...

Hell, since we're all pulling numbers out of our *****, let me add mine:
481 HP Standard 997 TT
524 HP "X50" 997 TT
(I predict a slightly higher delta between the base and X50 variant than the 996 models)
DT

I agree, I think we choose to drive european cars for more then just flat out acceleration. Its the combination of styling, interiors, heritage, performance that makes the whole package, something a vette will never offer for me.
I'd even take my C4S over the vette anyday, even though it will smoke me off the line and on the track. I like the p car!

I don't believe that anyone will argue that point either, buddy. Hands down, the best bang for the buck. However, the car just doesn't do it for me. I dunno why. I think that it has to do with the rear hatch vs trunk as was the difference with the C5 and C5 Z06. It doesn't differ from the C6 enough for my tastes. I dunno, there is just something about it that doesn't sit well with me...

Without a doubt the '06 Z06 has put a new spin on bang-for-the-buck in terms of performance. However I made a comment about how the performance engineering is an A, the beancounters knock off a letter grade or two, (service is a D), so the whole platform kind of averages out to a C+ (this coming from a 4 time Vette owner).
I hope my experience with a 996/TT is better as a *whole*.
Recent example of penny pinchers at GM doing something retarded - they only produced left side brake rotors to cut costs. So the Z06 (and C6 w/ Z51 package) left side rotors are fine, but the right side are lefts "flipped over", so the drill pattern swirls the opposite direction, but even worse, the cooling veins are also backwards... "Hey, my right wide brakes are fading??"

It's a real situation:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...4&page=1&pp=20
(That's just one thread about it, there are a few on all the major Vette boards)
Some people are of course making excuses "It has a 427" , and "for $70K you can't expect everything to be perfect"
I mean, I don't expect Porsche ownership to be Nirvana, but I would think they would execute the details like brake rotors correctly (?) Just one of those small oversights like headlamp plugs falling out, rocking seat backs, the steering column locking up - nothing epic, and usually nothing with the powertrain, but *very* annoying...
