Autoweek New 997 Turbo
Autoweeks article on the new 997 Turbo. Mass produced, more weight with little added HP. How very sad. This will not only be the last Turbo for me, it will also be my last Porsche.

If you think about it, the base numbers for the 996 TT and X-50 still hold up pretty well. As we all know, to see large gains when you are already at the 95th percentile takes an awful lot. I can imagine 0-60 in around 3.5-3.6 with a top-end shy of 200. They may actually shave a little weight but power isn't going to be over the top. I'd say if the numbers match up to the C6 Z06 that's about all we can expect. Most of our modified cars will probably still be faster. I'm sure the interior upgrades and materials will be more modern looking like 997 and maybe there is a trick up their sleeve still.

I think the base 997 Turbo will have about 500 hp, with an "S" model available with 520-530 hp. It will have better handling than the 996 Turbo, will run the Ring's big track in the low 7:40's, do 0-60 in 3.5 sec, and run the quarter in 11.6 at 125 mph.

For now it's all speculation until Porsche tell's it like it is. Me I can't wait for the 997 GT2 if they decide to build one.
As far as what auto magazaines say it's just what they decide to put in print and nothing beats 'seat of the pants" experience. Whether its going to be in Vette "territory" has never and will never be the question for me, it has nothing to do with buying, owning and loving my Porsche car.

I forsee 475hp, perhaps a smidge more weight, and the "S" might hit 500hp. I guess we'll see...

I wouldn't take a vette over a 911 either but I am very impressed with the Z06. You can't touch that performance for the dollar.
