Cost for brake replacement and Clutch slave

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a potential 2001 996tt to purchase, everything about the car is on point. But the current owner had mentioned that the clutch slave will need to be replaced soon, I wanted to see if any of you had a ball park number of what that would cost. Mainly so I could see if it makes more sense for me to just swap out to a GT2 clutch. Secondly the car has about 33K miles on it, the current owner has not needed to replace the brakes yet, but I also wanted to see what the cost would be for front and rear brakes and lastly how much it would be to replace all of the hoses, because I know those will need to be done eventually.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what I can expect to spend in the near future for maintenance.

Thanks in advance guys!

If 32k and the car never been on a track/raced. You still should be ok! question is, can you swap it yourself? clutch slave need to be replaced soon? whats wrong with it? in a long run, yes, its worth it to go GT2 Route.

Most likely clutch reservoir is leaking on the age of our cars. If you do the slave replacement, go the GT2 route

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Any idea on the cost associated with the GT2 clutch swap? I've gotten $1800 from some people I've talked to.

if you do the mod yourself your looking at about 750$ in parts. for pads and rotors i used sebro slotted rotors and cool carbon pads all 4 corners about 1000$ all labor diy. hoses all coolant about 300 to 400$

slave is a bit*ch bout 600?! and a cpl/few hours to r&r since ya gotta at least certainly lower the motor at the mm's to get the few inches clearance you'll need to properly get at it.

brakes are not time consuming and i just got some sebro rotors and pads bosch same as textars pretty much, and it was 100 each rotor ( x2 ) and 68 bucks for rear pads. it'll take 1.5-2 hrs tops to r&r the rears and bleed the system. I'm gonna do it the dark tomorrow night and drink beer too. but then all i have to do is work the church key.

Here is a clutch slave replacement DIY with time it should take and how much you'll roughly spend. Here is a brake pad DIY with the same information and here is the brake rotors DIY. If you need any other help or information, we have a lot more DIY tech articles here.

^^ as noted in the notes section of the pelican parts clutch slave diy for the 996 carerra? which you posted. it isn't *quite* as easy ( read accessible ) for the TURBO as that diy purports to be, as the addendum note on your site rightly points out.

its a bit tougher to get at the slave. at the very least it requires lowering the motor a cpl inches as i noted upthread. if my memory serves?

Ah yes, thank you for your input. I am talking with our tech article guy to possibly add in the information needed for the Turbo.

well, unfortunately while attempting install my new rotors/pads last evening, i did find that the metal bracket that pins the pads to the calipers does NOT fit, leading me to believe that perhaps these boschs pads are different? i know that they are not flanged as some others are which tends to contribute in my experience to some squealing. more importantly, they wont fit! yet, as you see from my cut and paste from that section on your site and from which i ordered it is possible? the compatibility section is not? 100% accurate?

the BOSCH box also states very clearly 986 part, no mention on it of cross compatibility with 996 or TURBO.

so i do need an RMA# and a set of textars rear

the good news i can say is an r&r of rotors and putting my OLD PADS back in took all of 15 minutes, so replacing pads i can safely say is a 30 minute endeavor both sides rear. also, the $102 sebro coated rotors are the SAME as much more expensive. in closing, perhaps you guys can do a "little" wrong? but not enough to dissuade me from online ordering and continuing with pelican.

i will simply revert to phone in orders in which i get your reps to confirm part compatibility two, maybe three times. this might? be why.

Brake Pad Set (Front or Rear)
- 996 Carrera 4S (2002-05) Note: Not for cars with option M450 Ceramic Brake Disc.
- 996 Carrera and Carrera 4 (1999-05)
- 996 Turbo and Turbo S (2001-05) Note: Not for cars with option M450 Ceramic Brake Disc.

Brand: Bosch EuroLine Part Number: 996-352-949-03-M1114
[More Info]

Rating:

(2 per car, sold individually)
Note: Equivalent to the current (new) OE design. Backing plate with larger mass and balance weights added to reduce noise, For Mounting Parts Use (Qty.) (1) 996 351 959 01 kit

what "mounting kit? i use my same clips and screws etc. is this possibly my "issue"

so pelican,..sorry to put your business in the street and to the op for turning this into a customer service gripe thread lol though some definitive answer re their product listing ( which was also wrong i was told when phoning on an order a FEW WEEKS ago! ) might help others in the future, as for me, i'm hoping my buddy will just swap me a set of 996 turbo pads for my NEW BOSCH 986 pads! argh.

996s and TT's are a bit different, and people mix them all the time. as far DIY's.

greatly appreciate the offer. ive been on the phone with you guys to sort it. as it turns out? the bosch pads ( 986 part??) will seemingly "fit" inside the caliper, but it's the addition of the added "$45.00 "brake kit" which I have never needed to swap, and that I was told I NEEDED(?! which does not make a lot of sense to me at all, as we are merely talking the pins and "retaining clips" which are metal and affix to the sides of the closed caliper presumably to keep in place the pads?

I must say it is confusing to me as I have never had an issue replacing a set of pads or rotors and was stymied by the info I needed another "parts kit" to accompany the bosch pads ( again saying a 986? part ). so ordered the $50.00 kit, spoke with my friend who said forget it, I have a set on textars with me, i'll see ya later we will re-use the same clips and pins and the rotors are new ( that's cool ) and as long as the beer is on ice, ill remain a bit confused but i'l be able to presumably stop on demand with the parts ive got.

if he cant use the bosch ( which I think he can on another car ) then i'll ask for an rma and no biggie, just a headscratcher.

you guys are still on price POINT and your CS is unparellled. thanks agan for the offer.
