F430 vs stage 1 996TT?

Heated discussion at dinner tonight. Bro in law says the 430 will smoke a stage 1 TT. I say no way... Anyone done the comparison?

Take it to the track and find out, the F430 won't smoke a Turbo, but it won't be behind.

I would think that it would be pretty close. The turbo would have a torque advantage, but the F430 Coupe would have the weight advantage. Power would be rather close between the two given the increase of ~6psi on the turbo. I am not sure what the final drive gear ratio is for the F430, though (I've seen 4.30, 3.55, etc). We know the 911 turbo 6sp sits at 3.44.

You can't compare the diff ratios on two different vehicles unless the overdrive (6th gear) ratio is identical.

What does overdrive have to do with it? If you never make it into 6th, it becomes a moot point. 6th gear won't matter if your race runs from 3rd to 5th gear. The final drive coupled with the gear ratios give you a final drive ratio for each set of gears. The stock rear-end will give you a hint as to acceleration if the gear ratios for both cars are on par with each other. The final drive gear ratio (rear end x the current gear that you are in) is what will help provide more insight.

i dont care which one is faster. clearly the TT is, but id so much rather have the 430..beating other cars doesnt give me my enjoyment. the fun factor involves me and an open road. no need for the street racing

Stock for stock, the F430 would run away from the 996TT in almost all instances I do believe. Then again, we are comparing a "new" Ferrari to a 5 yr old Porsche. The 997TT might even the score, but who knows. Weight will play a huge roll...

i think his comparison is of a modded TT to a stock F430? . my understanding of Stage I is ecu, diverter valves, air filter/intake. good for 490 hp/ 500 tq. 430 is rated at 490 hp/ 343 tq. Quite a difference in tq should give the TT the clear advantage IMO. Regardless, the 430 is the winner in overall car experience

It would be close. Added torque, but also added weight of the AWD system. I'm a Porsche lover and have never been a big fan of Ferraris. To each their own...
