Guys running catless exhausts.....

How bad does it stink? I've had various cars and ran a few of them catless and there was a huge difference between them with regards to how much it stank. Obviously one with a V8 and aggressive cam was very bad.

Anyway, I was thinking about going catless on the 996 but was afraid how bad it would smell since I drive the car daily. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Noticeable, but not terrible.

References: My cammed Z28 I had many years ago would sometimes make your eyes water standing next to it. My wifes E92 M3 with no primaries but high flow secondaries actually has more of a fuel smell than my 911.

To me? Not worth it, I'm running gutted techart, I drive only 20miles a week or so, not much. I really want Straight pipes, ill do it someday, I want that turbo whistle sound. Every turbocharged car stink, we have 2 turbos, but to be honest my Evolution VIII was worst. when you gun it and someone is driving behind you can smell it. but it's not bad. On idle or driving you cant really smell it.

Remember when running cut-less you will get Check engine light. Even o2 Fouler/bung wont help, so you have to live with CE light. Unless you turn off rear o2 sensors but that also fail emission testing.

You can always swap the exhausts.

Yea, with my brothers 1969 Corvette your clothes stink after driving it. Thats what I want to make sure does not happen if I run the Porsche catless.

My tune already has the rears deleted I think. The way they do the emissions testing here it still passed since they do not put it on the sniffer for newer cars.

I'm on cat less, really don't notice a major smell, biggest issue for me is keeping tips and back bumper clean.

I've always wondered what this "stink" is people refer to when you don't run cats. Gas? Because the only thing I've ever notice that smells like **** are the cats. I notice nothing running straight pipes on mine, but I am also a manly man...not a woman or a prissy limp wrist.

Not true, I run 3" cat less unobtainium exhaust on my car with O2 foulers and no check engine light. I'm also on stock tune.

As far as the smell, I only smell it if windows are down and at a stop and it's very light.

Catless straight pipes here. No in cab smell for me with windows down or sunroof open. Another 996turbo owner that was cruising behind me a few weeks back said my car was smelly when I got on it hard so they might have smelled funky after that drive. Oops.

If it's whistle you want put on an Unobtanium exhaust and hear it even with cats. I don't think my cats are costing me anything really but if I start using anti-lag or 2step I'll have to worry about damaging them...

well they can detect that rear o2 is not present. so they can fail you as well, all depends which state... we dont have sniff test as well but rear o2s need to be present.

cat-less it smells like a dirty fish tank with dead fish in it

yes another thing you need to clean the bumper and exhausts tips.
