Valve stem supports?

Valve stem supports?
I saw an ad for these. The one-liner went something like:
"If you drive over 140mph and like your valve stems, you need these."
The stock 911TT wheels have a metal collar for stem support, but many aftermarket wheels do not. My Fikse wheels have steel stems. So I'm wondering...is there a real use for these? I'm guessing yes for those wheels with a plain rubber valve stem. Anybody know for sure? We need mythbusters!
