Thumbs up Deflowered by a Black Beauty

I finally allowed myself to drive a TT over the holiday. Afraid for years that it would ruin me for my car (or any other, for that matter) I finally gave in. I had reason to fear....

She was a seductive beauty:
2004 TT w/ X50. Black on Black, 18" Sport Technos, PCCB, full leather, sport seats, yellow stitching and yellow belts (to match the big yellow calipers). Yum! It also had a short shift kit. A mere 5400 miles.

Wow! When those turbos spool up fully, its like someone smashing you in the *** with a shovel as the car screeches off like a scalded cat. It was almost scary fast. And the sound... good gawd. Those big gills right behind the doors sound like they'll suck off your arm if you stick it out the window. The "WHOOOSH!" is awesome.

Made my wife's S4 feel like a dog on the way home. I can't imagine what its like for you guys with the mods. Insane...

In the end, I didn't buy her. I've had my heart set on a 997S Cab. A good night's sleep and a roll in one sealed it. I'll stick to plan and order my cab later.

For those that haven't driven a TT, don't until you are ready to buy. I am now ruined.... For those who are interested, the Batmobile is still at my local dealer.

you should get the 996 Turbo over the 997S Cab. I saw a 997S Cab recently and it didn't create the same feeling the 996 Turbo does

A turbo 911 will always be more special than a Carrera...

I am reserving the right to get a TT Cab if the right one falls into my lap.

Topic beaten to death. Two completely different cars. Both cars amazing. Bottom line. Good luck agonizing. I went with the better warranty and the more refined P. Turbo is definitely faster, stronger, and maybe nicer. Less refined. The 997 is truly precise.

Aron,
I was in the same situation, did not want the TT to ruin my feel for my current car. Been putting off driving a TT for some time. Couple weeks back, I finally test drove a 03. Well the TT did it! My 04 M3,which I had for 1 year, is for sale (possibly sold this week). Since I am taking a fairly big hit on the M, I will be looking into an 01 or 02 TT. Man I can not wait.

You're right Judge. I am still astounded at how well Porsche took a great car in the 996 and made it noticably better! The bump to 997 is almost the leap from 993 to 996. My wife and I noticed the difference before I even turned the key. The seats, the doors, the materials, the fit & finish. Even the drive feel was appreciably better (once I got used to the variable ratio steering).

The TT was much more visceral. Raw and mean. In some ways they are apples vs. oranges. In the end it will come down to timing. If the right TT Cab isn't around when I'm ready to pull the trigger, it'll be the 997.

So for the new TT buyer, I think the upgrade from 996 to 997 will go much deeper than the horsepower specs.

Sorry to say I'm just a little disappointed by the contents - the subject brought back visions of my youthful indescretions - was hoping to relive.....

And there is nothing like a TT X50 - except Hestor, but that's a long time ago
