Which upgrade with k16 turbos
Hi guys,
I read so much about upgraded turbos, billets and stuff, but still no clue what modification for k16 turbos to chose. I am not looking for the most powerfull upgrade, but the best for the track. I read about k16/24 hybrids, g16, g18 and 2480 what ever this means.
What should i get? What to tell the guy who does the modification?
Without knowledge i cannot tell what i want.
Thx in advance

was just talking turbos the other day with a very well known and respected tuner. i have 16/24's and run canyons primarily and up a lot of steep hills and need as close to "instant" full boost as i can get. the 16/24 w a 1.2 tune does that perfectly, and is best as he described it for a "sprinter", which is an apt description of what i do with the car and what it does back.
if you're going for BIG power the the larger turbos will get you more on top with supporting mods, but the tendency is to lose that quick spool on the bottom. again, why a 16/24 tuned car works so well for me.
it all depends on what your goals are. i would think in germany you have a lot more places you can hit near top speed, so that would probably influence me to go larger. this should become an interesting thread and is always gonna be better than which oil or plug to use.

Hi ghost
There are definitely a few different set ups to choose from and each can be good in their own way. I have had the pleasure of doing a lot of these cars with a lot of different configurations and think I might be able to help you. Feel free to send me a note or even call and I can try and share whatever I've learned to help you pinpoint what will meet your goals. You are in for a treat because quite a bit of power can be achieved above and beyond what you have already. You have a very good frame to make a more powerful car and have it be even more fun!

Keep in mind that if you are staying with a MAF based set up you will be limited by the amount of air you can flow in the top end. This will be right at 600whp. As such going with large turbos will not net you any gains. I run a MAF based set up with K16 variants due to the simple fact that their spool is nearly instant and they still produce 600whp on the top end at 7500rpm. Down low at 4000rpm I have 500whp and 670 ft.lb of wheel torgue.

Since the Germany/Autobahn might be home for you...I'd upgrade to k24 based/other aftermarket...less backpressure/heat retention for extended usage. My tuner, Tony @ EPL suggests I'd like the 18G upgrade to my k24's...but being so stabile lap after lap/vmax and reliable at this point, I'm in no hurry to upgrade...although a little more efficiency/flow up top wouldn't hurt either...
Dad has k16's, I have k24's...

Thx for all the infos u guys gave here.
Indeed the autobahn is the place for top speed runs. But its freaking scary to drive 330+km/h. My rev limiter is set to 7000RPM. Ive been there in 6th gear.
But thats not my gole to create an autobahn monster. i want quick excelleration and fast spool so the k16 base is all good. I aim for 550-600 whp with pump gas (98octan). Important is that i dont want to use different injectores. So the compressor side doesnt need to be hugh.
The k16/24 hybrid is fine but i want a little more punsh. Any ideas? G16?
What means 2480 btw? Must be a compressor wheel.

ya cant really discount the "punch" of properly setup 16/24's with decats and a proper tune which i assume you've got. mine hits 1.3 and i get punched regularly at anything over 5krpm w a 7200 rev limit.. and as you said, you dont wanna mess with fuel? so the 5bar fpr can handle it,..albeit just about at its limit. you wont find much faster spool.. i dont think...but so many choices. one thing all agree on is,.. call sam.

Lots of great recommendations here. My .02... If you don't want to do fuel injectors then I think the best bet is k16 billets. You have the turbos already...upgrade the compressor wheels, tune, and you're flying (more).
Lots of guys can help you with this. Markski, Sam,...etc...I think all the tuners have a k16/16g/billet setup
