Head Gasket sealing area - sleeves
Does the head gasket seal against the top of the liners?
I have some "brand new" darton sleeves from a supplier on this board and they have dinks in the top, they also look used but they swear they aren't. Are they always like this?
Thanks

They look second hand to me so I'm not to happy seeing as I was told they were brand new. Seeing as I'm in the uk and they are in the States I'm just looking at how I can recover them.
They also sold me inconel ARP head studs but I can't find any specs for them, do they exist? Also a bit concerned with the sealing of the block so will have to get that looked at.

As for the dings on top of the sleeves: The dings on the top of the cylinders are but I have to ask is after the liners are installed are they installed with just a bit of metal above the block deck and the deck is cut -- just a "skim" cut -- to clean the deck surface and bring the sleeve height down to the deck height?
If so this will remove the dings and also ensure the top of the liners are all flush with the deck and the gasket then should seal just fine.

There is no skim cut ever taken from the liner case or sleeve, they are supposed to drop in as is. The sleeves are held in place by orings, there is no rigidity to machine them in place. If you MUST machine them, they must be done individually including the liner case.

In that case then I would have to say the *liners* are damaged and unusable and the seller should accept them back.

Well, thinking out loud if the rust/corrosion can be dealt with to then ensure the proper sealing of the liner perhaps a shim can be placed at the bottom of where the liner fits -- if this is already machined -- or if the block not yet machined to take the liners the depth of the liner bore machined just a bit shallower and the top of the liner then re-machined -- just enough to remove the damage -- and bring the height of the liner to match that of the block deck and thus these liners used?
