996TT on TST

were do they find these people? LOL kevin must be hiding a huge secret if he can get 125 hp and 200 ft/lbs on just a tune! this guy knows just enough to be dangerous. 200mph on a tune only. I've been spending my money in all the wrong places!

The owner definitely seems to have did the proper research on the car. Sounds like more than just a tune if he is talking about being able to hear the turbos spool.
The only thing I like more about the 997TT is the more defined rear hips. Im fine with the 996 headlights if they had only not used a chrome bezel.

+1, I was thinking the same. Owner and driver seemed to get it and definitely sounded like the new owner researched before pulling the trigger.
Car actually looks real solid in the video. I'm pretty sure they mentioned tune, intake, and exhaust. Sounds like a pretty free flowing exhaust in the vid. I thought it was a nice video and seems like they were both pretty happy with the car.

For those of you who don't know of Matt Farah, he's the host/owner of The Smoking Tire website. Matt's a true grassroots car guy, he really seems to know his stuff, I've never heard him come across with anything that sounded ridiculous. Seems like he simply took her word that the car was making 575 (crank) hp. Since it's running a UMW tune, Kevin ought to know the car.
If he filmed up here in NorCal I'd let him drive my car in one of our canyons for his "One Take". He doesn't seem to abuse the cars or do anything stupid.
Perhaps she'll ditch those 19s...something's not right if 305s are rubbing out back.

Its nice to see the 996 get some merit. Matt's been one to typically trash the generation, so I'm glad he got to see how the turbo is different than the non-turbo variants.
If they're ever on the East Coast I'd have no problem handing over my keys

I think the 996TT is sort of in this strange limbo. Its been known in the higher end tuning world with the roll races etc but that group doesnt exactly get the same type of coverage as the import tuners. Within the past couple years, this car has started to be seen for the bargain that it is by the import tuning crowd. The mod/maintenance cost may keep some out but you are still getting a car that, performance wise, falls in line with the Supras, Skylines etc and is newer while still being cheaper than the current crop of halo cars (GT-Rs, NSX, etc).
Hell, thats the reason I pulled the trigger on mine. Best bang for the buck out there.

I know you guys think I'm full of hooey but in 10 years it will be nearly impossible to find a clean 996t and people for sure will think twice before modding them. Supra guys should know this better than anyone= a clean stock turbo is like hens teeth and highly sought after, I know they made more 996t but the recipes the same. When I was younger I could care less either so enjoy yourselves lol.

I respect your opinion and agree to some degree but the purists will fawn over the car in time, headlights will take backseat to first water cooled with the dependable motor and manual. I really could care less but figure I will add some what I consider good advice and liven up the conversation along with it.
