More battery issues

Ok so here is round 2...the car was parked in the garage connected to a battery tender for about a month.

Periodically I'd check the status on the CTek and all looked good. This morning the CTek showed no charge status and just power and mode.

The car has zero power, no lights, nothing. Is there maybe a power sleep mode or something I'm missing?

And of course I have no luck getting under either hood by connecting through the fuse box

Reads like the battery has completely died. Time to find and use the manual front trunk lid latch release cable.

When the techs connect a battery charger to the car's battery they leave it in the car's battery box and they leave the front trunk lid open but pop the trunk light out and disconnect it.

In case the battery dies or fails to be resurrected by the charger/conditioner the battery is easily accessible to replace.

Crisis averted, I finally got the hood to pop by playing with the amp settings on the jumper box.

It looks like maybe the fuse on the cig. outlet went out (haven't checked yet). I called CTek and they said they have actually been having issues with Porsches where the cig. outlet goes to sleep after a period of time.

They are working with PCNA on a fix.

Was typing why you were giving update. I have never had an issue with my car, I never lock it maybe that has something to do with it? - but doubt it. Sometimes the attachment doesn't fit snugly into cig lighter inlet. Hopefully something minor. Added info= My car sits over winter and always starts right up= battery going on three years.

i wouldnt use the cig lighter to charge put a quick connect on the battery terminals and charge directly to them. 996s tend to draw power when they sit - kind of a known thing with them.

My favorite thing that came with my car when I bought it has been the hardwired battery tender. It looks strange to have a plug in my frunk but it has been so easy to just pop the hood and plug it in when I park.

I know, the battery drain has been an issue since day 1. I just thought the cig adapter would've been the easy fix. I'll try keeping the CTek connected to the battery from now on.

have you had it hooked up to a Durametric or PIWIS and circuit tested?
Something isn't right, likely defective battery...
Every 996 I deal with can sit for weeks without any issue...

Tons of people use the cig adapter with no issues but nothing wrong with direct to battery either.

Not sure which model you have but I just picked up a Ctek 7002 which is great. I was tired of my battery dying between drives. It came included with a quick disconnect cable which is really convenient to use.

The NA 996's are easy on batteries. The 996 Turbo and I hear some of the newer models are harder on batteries.

I don't have any real details but I hear the reason is there is extra electrical load while the car is off. Something to do with keeping the fuel pressure in the rails high so the engine fires right off.

But this is not done by running the fuel pump with the engine off. That's all I know and I admit I don't know it for a fact as I haven't had time to get any confirmation on this info.

All I know is my 996 Turbo does not tolerate sitting unused for long periods of time while my Boxster is unfazed by this. And I lock both cars and both do not have any extra electrical drains. I always unplug the NAV and V1 in the Turbo and the NAV in the Boxster when I park car for any length of time. And I go so far as to unplug the power adapter cable from the cigarette lighter socket at the cable/adapter causes a small electrical drain.
