Let me rephrase a bit...I was told the STOCK 16's are being pushed hard over 450RWHP...again this is what I was told...true??

Ah, the word "stock," such a significant little word. Yes Evan, your statement is now significantly more corrrect. Smaller hot side turbo's provide significantly better response up to a point, after which you trade response for more power.

Ok, yes this upsolute car has STOCK K16's, which is what I have been talking about the whole time....god 800BHP on stock K16's that would be a site to see

Evan,

If you really want to see something, install a S Car Go Racing carbon fiber intake and one of their larger throttle bodies.

....so from this discussion it appears aftermarket K16's are different from stock...what are the differences and is it a performance or reliability improvement?

mjc123,

These guys are not going to give out their trade secrets, but zero clearancing the plate, machining the body to accept larger impellars, using Garrett bearings and impellars, polishing the inducer area, lighter impellars, etc.

I only wish I knew everything.

Evan,

Just remember, half the fun is getting there and if you have to work for it, it is definitely more rewarding. You will get eventually to where you want, if you really want it enough. Enjoy the journey.

msindi is infamous around these parts
I dont wanna start a war here but I agree that GIAC is slightly overpriced (why should a Cayenne program be less than a level 1??)...
ANyhow, I too have tried the Upsolute and unfortunately was not happy with the amount of turbo lag with stock K24 (X50) turbos...I e-mailed the guy who installed my program the day after I gotit and informed him of this and that I want a refund...He told me to check the DVs and hoses for any leaks and seeing if that may be the cause for lag...I scheduled with my tech to do so but ended up having to leave my car at the dealership for more than 3 weeks ehile tgey replaced my tranny due to popping out of second problem. I thin rescheduled with my tech (who is the hardest man to get an appointment with!) and looked into leaks and did not find any. I once again requested a refund and my installer said Upsolute NA handles all refunds directly. Needless to say, the guy from Upsolute NA told me that my 30-day thing expired, did not consider the exceptions in this case and I never got any of my $550 back.....

Evan who did the Upsolute for you? They refered me to a mechanic from a VW store who does it in his spare time. Sounded a little scary to me.

Mike these Turbos are not as clean cut as you think. I have one of two sets in existince right now Alex being the other. The car will require custom programming that will run you between 4k to 8k. They are not a bolt on instalation. If I did it over I would of done the Garret's that Wilbur and Chad are running.

msindi:

I actually took your situation into consideration, but figured at $575, this was 15% of the cost (+/-) of the alternatives, so worst case I would've hated it and paid a 15% premium for anotehr product. The risk/reward seemed reasonable, and fortunately it seems to have worked for me. Maybe it's the X50 Upsolute program that's the problem. I wasn't planning on any more mods....but the improvement in power is addictive and here I go asking questions about zero clearance turbos....oh, well

This was not my car Shawn, just a buddy of mine's (I have GIAC). He had it done at the same place you are talking about and had a bad experience...they could not get his car started for I believe a couple days as some dirt had gotten in there or somthin (not exactly sure what). I would not reccomend that you go there....
