Duane - can you elaborate more on the zero clearance issues you are having as that was gonna be my next mod....I am trying to see if I can use a K24 platform instead but who knows??
Also, I know that Kevin is the authority on zero-clearance but are there any other people places with similar know how?? It seems odd that only one person in the industry would have this knowledge without patenting it or soemthing....

MJC - thats one way to look at it but at the end of the day $550 is still $550!! could have bought a new digital camera or something.....I consider it a loss (uncollectable bad debt if you will) not the premium to upgrade ECU....

Ahh, I do recall the sound of your car...actually have a nice little vid of your car next to mine leaving SF, on a bridge just before that tollbooth...will try and send but the file may be too big nor do I have a place to post it right now.

One thing to remember, wherever/whoever does you ECU mod. Porsche epoxys the circuit board to the internal frame AND buries the ECU CPU on the bottom side. You have to have proper hot air gear to loosen the epoxy and proper desoldering/resoldering equipment work station and hands that do fine electrictronics work. It's not something any grease monkey with access to a lap top should be entrusted to do. The Upsolute western distributor ( Lanny Richardson ) is actually a college professor , teaches industrial courses that include this kind of electronics work , and has the proper gear and does all his own work . He does the Upsolute on the side per some research I have. Stephen at Imagine had shown some shoddy resoldering by someone else- it can happen with any brand. Therefore , one can't vouch for the quality of work for any other Upsolute or other brand rep. So pick not only the brand of ECU upgrade carefully but who the ACTUAL person doing the work is. If you send your ECU to some mail order place - who's actually tearing apart ( and possibly damaging one of the many other car system control chips) in that $1500 box to get at the ECU chip ?

I agree with MKW. The first place I looked was near me, but had never done a porsche. They said "no problem." I went to the Upsolute website and found the guy for all of North America. Called and sent it to him. He did the work. Sent it back in one day. I have had it for a couple of months without issue. Power difference is very noticeable. My car has Bailey DVs but is otherwise stock, non X50. It was well worth the money for me.

Mike, the no one currently has the software for the Zero clearance turbos. If I am not mistaken people are using the Stage 4 GT software untik something else comes available. The other option is you can have the car tuned on a dyno.

MKW - that shoddy work was actually on my ECU!! In addition, they used in Audi EPROM instead of a Porsche one....

Like I wrote - make sure the person knows how to work with microelectronics. This ain't something you do with a $10 Radio Shack soldering iron. The proper rigs cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. I saw your pics -scary . Lanny's work cannot be told from original , even magnified.

Duane,

Just to clarify, my turbos and Chad's are not the same. The sizing is quite different. His spools faster, mine flows more air.

Getting the Garretts to fit in my case was definitely not a bolt on procedure. However, Wilber was the pioneer in this area. When everyone else thought he was insane to throw out the KKK turbos, he did it anyway.

I think PES and EVO have done a great job at adapting the Garretts to the factory bolt setup, oil lines, etc. to make it a real bolt on package. Next week we will find out how it performs against ours.

Today we dynoed a car at my mechanic's shop completely stock with an upsolute ECU upgrade and then again after the install of a Fabspeed (quiet) exhaust...

Evan-

Just out of curiosity, what type of dyno was used? Was the front end disconnected?

Thanks.
