Changed oil & reading high. How to drain

I did an oil change on the car about a month ago & added slowly brought the oil up based on the oil indicator. I did finally drive the car the other day & it's ready right on the very top indicator. Should I remove a bit of oil & bring it down 1/2 levels. If so, what would be the proper way to drain just a small amount of oil out the car.

On the digital gauge, there's full, and there one additional bar above. Are you saying the above bar is lit?

If it's just barely into the top bar by some ounces, and not quarts into it, since you did the fill slowly, I'm not sure I'd bother draining any. Just drive her and she'll burn some off

If you really want to drain a little bit:
1) Drain via the turbo reservoir, you'll get some ounces out of each side.
2) Drain via the crankcase (not oil tank!) and you'll get something between 2-3 quarts which should put you in the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of the gauge.

Thanks pteck. I added the correct amount of oil & brought it up to temp. She was reading one bar above the center. After driving it the other day, I decided to check it again the bar reading was right up at the last lit bar. I just didn't want it overfilled & maybe damage the motor.
Thanks Todd

You cannot damage the engine. Its dry sump.

Don't take the "dry sump" too literally. While the oil is not stored there per say, it most definitely collects there to be pulled away by the scavenging pumps. So depending on how the motor was shut down, the amount of oil there varies.

It's standard procedure when doing an oil change to dump the crank case and oil tank. Some people do the turbo reservoirs but I find it's not worth the effort.

agree 100% w above. if you drained the tank and crank and left the turbos alone. you added roughly 8.5 qts and are fine, no danger.

i too would just put some miles on her to bring the level down since 250 miles should be a 1/4 qt if your car uses oil at the *normal* and usual rate of 1 qt per 1k miles. i would'nt go thru the trouble of draining any out from the turbo's as you'll only need to add it back soon enough anyway. you're fine, drive the car burn some off. check the gauge again until you're at the top line. not above. nothing to worry about.

I drained everything including the tank reservoirs & then put 8 quarts back into the car. I started the car & brought it back up to operating temperature where I got an oil indicator reading. I slowly added oil to the motor and brought it up exactly one bar above the middle of the indicator. It was just weird that after I drove the car, I decided to check & it had moved up two more bars to the top.
Thanks guys for the feedback. I just want to be better safe than sorry !!!!
