Porsche 996tt Kline Exhaust Review
#16
This was my point in another thread. I'm not calling you out or putting you on the spot but I don't think you know what the difference is between LOUD and DRONE.
I have an even more aggressive exhaust than yours. I have a 3" Speedtech Xpipe with no cats and NO mufflers. Does my exhaust drone? Yes. However, it's only around 2400-2600rpm.
With that said, is it loud? Hell yes and everywhere!
Perhaps you don't like how loud it is. For some, that can be a turn off too.

"DRONE" can be pretty much described as the amount of humming/resonating noise you hear inside the cabin of the car at cruise (or under a light or medium load). It can resonate much more sharply between certain rpm ranges. "Drone" is when the frequency of the exhaust makes the entire cabin resonate...every car and every engine/exhaust combo can be different. Drone is that lovely resonating sound within the cabin when cruising around, that makes you want to eat glass by the time you've been in traffic for an hour.
"LOUD" is generally how it sounds behind the car...or the volume of the exhaust at WOT, when the engine is under a heavy load.
Have you run a 3" Kline decat on a 996tt? My system drones a lot. Across a seemingly pretty wide RPM range.

That's just about it in a nutshell. It's the most aggressive exhaust we offer for this car and funny enough for some people want even more. Hopefully you guys are just misunderstanding each other as I know you both and you're both cool
Josh I'm hoping that's the cats will help as I know your car came with this system on it when you purchased it. I also wonder if all the sound deadening is in your car because your description seems like it's a little more aggressive then some have said. But again it is so subjective. Anyhow if the cats don't do it I will definitely help you bring a smile back even though you aren't the original purchaser, you're my customer now and we will get you sorted.
Thanks again for all the kind words guys!

It's all good and I'm sure he's cool...that's not the issue here...sometimes my written word can come across more annoyed than reality ...
I just find it silly sometimes when folks on forums try to tell you you're wrong...or what you're experiencing with your car (when they haven't even been in your car or haven't run the same system).
We'll see...thanks Sam! Since I don't daily drive it, I am willing to accept a bit more aggressive than I might otherwise live with. Also, I don't want anything that sounds as subdued as a Camry when driving around.
Yes, it can be very subjective. To have the OP on this thread say his 2.5" with 200 cell's was loud to him at idle (when first cold started at the shop) was very strange to me as well. The same Kline 2.5" with 200 cell's on my buddy SeanL's 996TT was way too quiet for my tastes.
Thanks to all for the input, including BauerR!

Having driven my car with both 200 cell cats & decats (Kline 2.5") and Josh's car with the 3" decat, it's not even close. The 3" system is loud, buzzy, and has more drones than the Amazon Delivery Service could ever wish for!

my 2.5 decat from sam is the sweet spot but of COURSE i wish i'd gone for the 3" and i'm too cheap to drop the cash on the inconel setup lol.. great review glad you like it!
best compliments i ever got were a 997 TT and 997.1 gt3 following me at crazy velocity and at the top of the hill when we got to the "top of the world" as its "known" they BOTH were astonished at even the 2.5 kline decatted. of course they got to hear it FOLLOWING me at nearly wot uphill for roughly 5 miles LOL.
one of the best exhausts for this car made if i were asked
enjoy it in good health! if NOT stealth lol

the 2.5 w cats does NOT drone at ANY rev range i have ever found. i never heard the 3" but i sure wish i had the slash cut tips!!

and yes, I am 100% digging my 'decat' Kline setup...both in terms of sound output (oh it screams in the tunnels!) and faster spool.
The thumbs up I got from a F430 pilot last week was indeed sweet!

I wouldn't say my 3" Kline with decats is droney. Loud, yes. But not droney but for the slightest amount. Compared to my 2.5" AP exhaust I had before drone is nonexistant, but that one still wasn't as bad as I imagine some of the OG non-x style setups were like.
I wish I could make it louder. After driving around in my wifes E92M with IPE exhaust set open my car sounds much more mellow. I don't think my car is going to have that same wail without becoming an 8500 RPM NA engine. I'll just have to enjoy the violent sounds mine makes on boost.

I think my Kline must be one of the very 1st few installed, well at least the very 1st in Australia. Mine is the 2.5" with 200cel cats and after over 3 years i can tell you I never tire of it, just love every time I'm on the loud peddle. Mine came with de cats but never really felt the need to change it, that is how satisfied I am with it.

You being serious? Ok, if you say so. Thanks for trying to point that out to me...twice apparently. As I understand it:

Providing the definition of drone doesn't mean you understand what its effects are in your ears, or in your head, rather.
And to answer your question about my experience with Kline, I have nearly 12 996TT owners within a 40mile radius of my house. Two of which own catless 3"Kline exhausts. NONE of those cars "DRONE" like you describe.
Their setup is the reason I approached Sam for a Kline exhaust in the first place(Coming from a Fabspeed) However, circumstances brought a Speedtech 3" xpipe into my path that I couldn't pass up...But I digress
To be honest, I've never heard anyone describe a 3"Kline like you have. Is yours special? It must be...

Again, this is not an attack but I'm trying to understand what you're saying.

I fail to recognize how you're trying to "understand what I'm saying"? M-kay. Instead, you basically worded..."You don't know what you're hearing and you don't know what you're talking about".
Perhaps you missed the post (from a very experienced car guy) who heard my car being pretty darn droney...or in your estimation, he just doesn't understand either? Right?
Enjoy your Speedtech.

I've owned 4 different exhaust setups on my car to date(including stock). I promise you I know more about exhaust combinations than you do. 200 cell cats arent going to help all that much with your "drone."
It sounds like you need an exhaust that's lot less aggressive.
Check your ego at the door. I'm trying to help you.
Not interested? Enjoy your car in good health.
