ABS kicking in over uneven pavement at low speeds?
Hey Guys,
Have noticed the ABS will kick in at low speeds over uneven pavement. I know it'll kick in if it feels difference in traction between wheels while braking, but these situations seem odd. The car's rather stiff, eibach sways and PSS10's....but this doesn't seem normal to me (never had another car do it).
Anyone run into this?

Yep, mine comes on all the time. I've heard it's very sensitive but I attribute the excess to either my coilover dampers needing a rebuild or the bigger 6 pot front brakes or a combination of both in my case.

Do you get it while braking or just driving around? It only happens on occasion for me when braking at low speed on uneven ground. At first I thought something was wrong with the brakes but it's just the ABS.

mine never activates unless under extreme braking conditions. i tilt my head in wonder at anyone who thinks that "normal" driving and abs activation is considered "normal".
it might be normal when you're driving like a maniac? but it sure wouldn't be "normal" for ANY sedate and within the speed limit and during the course of day to day and "legal" driving.

Keep tilting.
Happens at speeds as low as 1 mph (no hard braking required) if you are going down a steep mountain grade on hard packed gravel and gravel strewn paved roads. I know, I drive these types of roads regularly when playing in the mountains.
The key is in the OP's post where he references uneven pavement. I would include gravel littered pavement as well as uneven pavement.

One time at band camp I had this happen as I was creeping down a steep mountain cabin driveway.
The ABS kicked in and popped up this rock (it was buried for the most part at that time) at an angle that snapped the tie rod along with other carnage.
It was a freak shot but ended up causing $3,500 worth of overall damages. My speed at the time .... probably 1 mph.
