Coolant pipes drilled and pinned/found something scary
So I just purchased a 2002 996TT with 57k miles. Iv'e been waiting for one to be traded in where I work for about 4 years. (I sell Porsche for Blue Grass Motorsport in Louisville KY) Finally the right car came along. A slightly modded car in good condition and fairly low miles. It came with the Markski Tuning catless exhaust, Forgestar wheels (stock hollow spoke wheels included) and a Softronic 1 bar tune. A perfect starting point for me because I can never leave a car un-modified.
Here is the car the day I purchased it
THe first thing I did was put new tires on the stock Turbo twist. I went with the BFG Rival S in 245/40/18 front and 315/30/18 rear
Perfect fit
Knowing that I would be tracking the car and autocrossing the car regularly, I decided to go ahead and have the coolant tubes drilled and pinned here at the dealership. I also decided to go ahead and install new drive belt, new plugs and 997tt coils. I went with the Denso Double Platinum 3245 gapped at .026 (per Markski's advise) along with a new complete GT2 clutch assembly
My tech noticed that one of the top bolts on the bell housing was loose and that the starter harness wire was almost completely destroyed from being pinched between the bell housing and block. You could see that the wire had been sparking. My tech was surprised that it hadn't caught fire yet. He thinks that the clutch had already been replaced and it was probably not put back together properly.
I also decided to put some larger 5" core Protomotive intercoolers on while it was in the air. The third picture is a comparison to the stock 996 intercooler. Big difference!
Some cutting was required to get these monsters to fit.
After that my tech installed some H&R Springs and GT3 LCA's.
I wasn't too happy with the Forgestar wheels that the car came with. Luckily, I was able to trade them to a fellow co-worker for his 19" HRE 560R's
I think it turned out well (pay no attention to the dirty car or coolant on my rear bumper cover, a new coolant cap fixed it)

Unbelievable discount. For example, he only charged me 160 to install intercoolers. He's a good friend for sure

Congrats! Love that blue. I'm a fellow Ky 996tt owner. I live in Florence,Ky. Glad you found that wire issue. That looks scary.
I didn't realize 245/40 was a good option for the front. I just may look into the exac set of tires you bought.

Holy crap if that was your car on rivals and just a basic tune my billet k16s are going to need some serious rubber! I haven't taken it out yet because I think it's a ton of car for an auto-X but do need seat time. Congratulations.
