Any Advice on 20's For a TT
#17
I've driven that gray car with the 20's in the pic. It handles great and would probably smoke 90% of the TT's on this board. With the 20's on there... He's had no issues with the PSM or ABS and has been running them for nine months. The rubber is very thin so you have to watch the potholes though, but that goes for any plus size wheel. I'm sure if you're a track star, 18's would be the choice. If you're looking for a some bling on street car, I say why not?

I too have driven Gary's car and can attest to the fact that he had them on for almost a year with none of the above "problems".
If you ever plan on taking your car on the track however, make sure you keep your stock 18"s around.

question, how much do your average aftermarket 19" three piece wheels (HRE, Cargraphic, etc..) WITH tires and air weigh?
doesn't RUF's top, top of the line 996 turbo come with 20's on the rear?

The car has 19" Champions on it now, huge improvement.

RUF doesn't seem to have a problem using 20" wheels
From RUF's website:
The RUF Rt 12 is launched with the latest evolution of the RUF 5-spoke alloy wheels in a striking 19" design at the front axle and 20" at the rear axle. The brake system has big drilled, ventilated discs and fixed light alloy monobloc callipers. The suspension is engineered for a maximum speed of more than 219 mph.
Chassis:
RUF sports suspension: fully adjustable in ride height and stiffness
Option: RUF sports suspension, hydraulically adjustable in height up to 50 millimeters
RUF alloy wheels: front 9†x 19†with 255/35 ZR 19 Pirelli tires
rear 12.5†x 20†with 345/25 ZR 20 Pirelli tires

I bet it rides like a brick, but the Avus wheels are gorgeous.

Actually, if you look at the specs between the industry standard 315/25/19 that most use and the 305/25/20 that was on Gary's car you will notice that you are increasing the overall diameter by exactly 1 inch. Since he was using a 1 inch larger wheel as well the height of the sidewall is identical to the 315/25/19. The ride wasnt that different from his 19's. And the forged Avus wheels are relatively light compared to factory. And it allready has been mentioned, no PSM/ABS problems.

the 997 is designed to run 19''s therefore the overall rolling diameter is already bigger than anything 996s. for any 996s from 18'' going to 19'' u automatically running shorter side wall to comp the 1'' bigger wheel. so do the 997s u do the same from 19'' to 20''. for 996 to go to 20'' that means u'll be running the 1'' larger 997 size. i guess to each of his own then...

305/25 has a thinner profile (sidewall) than a 315/25.

20s are way too big. 19s the biggest i'd go. i think 20s on even the 997 is retarded. the car isn't physically bigger than the 996 to be able to handle 20s. it just looks awkward.
now from the performance side... every sign points to 18s, but 19s if you're vain. and y'all are.
