Installing 997TT Mezger engine in a 996TT ?
Hi gents, anyone done this? Without the VTGs but with ordinary turbos. How much extra work or parts there would be needed? What about the ECU?
My reason to ask is because I could have access to 997TT engines at a lower cost compared to used 996TT engines.
If it's too much of hassle I skip it.
But for example, a gearbox from 997TT was a nice plug and play for the 996TT.
Thanks for info!!

Mechanically it's a bolt-on job. IIRC all fuel, coolant and A/C lines will match. Electronics/ECU is another thing...boost control (VGT) is one, unless conventional turbos are used, turbos' cooling pump control another issue. Valvel/lift control has some differences too. I haven't seen 997 wiring loom, so I can't say anything about loom/box compatibility. In best case some new or changed wiring is needed with some changes to Motronic's programming. In worst the loom will not plug to ECU at all.
OTH one could switch 996's loom to 997's engine. If SAI pump is deleted all other bells and whistles are in correct places. Then turbos from old 996 engine and 997's turbo cooling pump delete. Problems solved! (In perfect world, that is.)
EDIT: I'd use 997's air filter box, Y-pipe and plenums, much better IMO. Then in tune delete AFM or double one AFM's (997 use two of them) output to simulate 996's system.
