Another Viper Bites the Dust

Another Viper Bites the Dust
I was driving home this evening when I pulled along side a current model SRT Viper (Silver). That is one fine looking car. I did not engage him, but rather, simply prepared myself in case he engaged me. When the light turned green, we pulled away slowly and continued at a normal pace, with neither of us punching the accelerator. This continued for approximately a half mile until the next red light. It appeared highly unlikely that anything would transpire, but I nevertheless remained alert. When the next red light turned green, we again pulled away slowly. Then, without warning, the Viper driver hammered his accelerator and began pulling hard. Having allowed him a clear jump, I mashed my accelerator and immediately reeled him in (as he continued WOT). Within seconds, I was pulling bus lengths on the Viper. It was over in a blip as he disappeared into my rear view mirror.
As an aside, I saw a Ferrari F40 or F50 entering the 101 freeway in Woodland Hills today at the Winnetka onramp (I was across the street exiting the freeway). The Ferrari stopped at the base of the on ramp, then did a hard launch, spinning his tires wildly as he pulled away. He stopped at the light at the top of the on ramp, then did the same thing again when the light turned green. I so wanted to engage him, but he was long gone by the time my light turned green. Anyone know who this guy is???

The Viper had a chance to drive away with his dignity intact, but nooooo, he wanted to rack up a kill on a 911 TT.
Kenny Rogers comes to mind, You gotta' know when to hold 'em ...

Craig,
I for one like to hear the stories. It is fun no matter if the opponents are stock or modded. Who was to say this Viper could have been sporting some mods to make it a better race? Don't really know unless you try!
We all know Vipers can be modded to be way faster in a straight line than a tt, who cares! It still is a Viper!
Go Craig!

If you want to race in your class.................. DE's, SCCA or the local drag strip. Then you play and compare by defined rules. When you're out in the jungle, the tiger doesn't care if you appear to be a little smaller or weaker.
$$$$$ just doesn't buy it as an excuse. I guess it may make people feel better. Kind of a way in rationalizing why they got their butt kicked.
DFW911T said it pretty well when he said:

Hey, it isn't just Viper guy's. If your going to play out their, instead of having to walk away with your tail between your legs you might do some homework regarding you're prey. Just because the label says Viper, Porsche, Lamo, Ferrari or ? doesn't mean sh#t. If you believe it does ......... chances are good you will become the prey.
In this case the Viper guy choose to play and he lost. Was he sand bagged ....... Was he a little lame for running Craig Will he know better next time (Gee, I sure hope he remembered the license number)

Apparantly some here think you should roll down your window and ask the driver of the other car how much power he is making. Then you must tell him how much power you are making. If he still wants to proceed...only then does it become a fair race.

Hey, I remember when Domestics and Germans used to roll up on those "lame Supra Turbos". . .hehe they learned the lesson of that mistake quickly.
Lots of cars can be modded to faster than 996TT/GT2 in a straight line and most Porsches are stock. The Viper guy prolly thought he'd have fun embarrasing the "stupid rich fool" who wasted $100K+ for a car that can't even beat the ingeniously designed and built car that performs better for less money.
Good kill.

What do you guys drive and if you do drive a sports car before you race do you stop and ask for credentials as to what who has under the hood, ITS A STREET RACE, the viper asked for a *** kicking and he got it, end of story.
Nice kill Craig, keep killing em out there and be safe.

I agree with the "Askin' for the *** Kickin' " bunch of you guys.
He asked for it and you gave it to him. There could have been a bunch of other cars he pounded that night before trying his steed against Craig.
However, is it me or is this section of the website becoming more and more about street racing. At 39, maybe I'm getting too old for the GT2/996TT section of 6speed? Where have all the track junkies and Autocross junkies gone? Where the hell is KPV with all the performance diatribes and lessons?
I should probably retire to the GT2/GT3/CGT section. They seem to talk more about these things....
Whoa is F#%king me!
