The angles bother the hell out of me... Well, that and the 50 buttons in the center console.

Actually, the interior on the doors bothers me more so than the center console. The center vents with their silver lining looks cheap to me. Matter of preference I guess...

997 interior is much more "classic Porsche". I see a lot of my 84 interior in the lines. Updated materials and turn signal make a nice upgrade.
996 is much sportier and aggressive looking to me. I test drove both and decided I couldn't look at that center console for the next few years.

I would buy a CGT or GT2. I do not care for any of the 997 variants. I drove them and studied them, but chose a 2003 GT2. The only 997 I like so far is the Cup car. They are becoming to grand touring-ish and less hard core.
However, if I were single and had no kids I would probably choose a 911s to drive every day.
Just my 2 cents

It's the 996 forum, let them enjoy their old interiors until the 997 turbo comes along and they crap their pants.
You are right on the money.

Obviously, it is very subjective and personal. I think the 997 interior looks too much like the Cayenne. The main piece I am not whacky about on the 996 interior is the horseshoe shape piece around the center air vents. The new center vents is not much better on the 997. The 997 seats look a bit awkward to me also. The center console on the 997, the shape of the dash and the door panels on the 997 are not very attractive to me. The 997 shifter looks funny. Everything looks Japanese and the angles are too sharp for a modern car.
Ferrari interiors are going in the right direction and I am not into this retro movement typified by the American designers who lack the creativity to come up with something new. The 996 dash lines were pretty good except for the humps for the speakers.

You are all just a bunch of old men who don't like change. How is it that the uproar over the 996's styling that porshe purists were throwing was so quickly forgotten? Now everyone loves the 996 and hates the 997 even though porsche did exactly what the purists wanted with a return to the traditional look. There is no pleasing everyone.
