upper console - 01 vs 02
Does anyone know if there are any differences between the dash/upper console from 2001 to 2002? I'd like to change to the upper console with the single pivoting cup holder but the dealer told me that it is only for 2002 and newer.
I'd like to replace these:
old trim for switch 996 552 233 04
old trim, frame and nozzle 996 552 131 04
with these:
new trim 996 552 233 06
new frame 996 552 231 13
new nozzle 996 552 263 01
cup holder 996 552 183 00
I posted this over on Renntech but there isn't much action over there right now.

What I know for sure is that there is more to it than just bezel and cupholder. The vents are different and If I am not mistaken, the shape of the dash itself may be different as well. The cupholders IMO are useless because why would you want to put any liquid over the HVAC controls and radio?
If you must have them, why simply add the '01 cupholders? It would fit if you moved your HVAC controls down to one of the empty bins. Your parts dept should have the right bezel for that.

My main objective was to create the best factory "look" possible for my kenwood double din nav installation. I pulled out the old radio and moved the thermo controls down below. With the stock bezzle/frame, I have a little more than 0.25 in. extra space to fill (top to bottom). I've seen the single cup holder setup with double din nav and it I like how clean the install looks... Plus it wouldn't hurt to have a drink holder...

With a double din aftermarket radio you cannot use the factory cupholders. My installer filled the space on the top and the bottom with black plastic strips and centered the double-din head unit. Looks perfect. The Ultimate Cupholder is the best way to go.
