The most suitable comparison will be stock 997 Turbo to C6Z. With 500 NA HP we know Vette is quick. new Turbo will be quicker than old Turbo so it should be close. Since all these cars are so quick, seeing any significant difference is unlikely. Even magazine tests will vary due to car, driver, temp, etc. If you want bragging rights just start shelling out big $ for mods to your Turbo and then be ready when the first TT or SC Z06 rolls up.

if you put a blower or turbo on a z06 watch out. It is real quick already. another 25-40% would be unreal. However it already has trrouble hooking up in first 2 gears already. Mods would only worsen it.

Allan that was no dream race and both of these guys are skilled track drivers, matter of fact one of them stopped by the Saturday Starbucks meet but without his GT2, they were out on Hgwy 27 and they did many many runs. The M5 owner also has a Highly modded TT.

As for the Lambo race once again the owner of the Murci (Egear car) was also at Starbucks but with his new Z06 and my friend who has the GT3 left him by 5 car lenghts my friend...

Never doubt I dont BS or makeup any stories...and the M5 Story is from 2 true die hard P-Car guys who have a ridiculous amount of track driving experience...

And on another note the M5 is an SMG there is not much to do...The GT2 driver needs the skill and the guy with the GT2 has raced many different levels of track racing. So never doubt my stories.. As for the Murci I dont care what is says on paper 0-100 the GT3 left him by 5 car lengths and I was in the GT3 with my friend my eyes dont lie and neither does my mouth.

On another note my other friend whom we aslo saw drive by Saturday has a Yellow Murci with exhust and ECU done and I have run with him about 1/2 mile in another friends Modded TT and that was 3 car lengths on the Lambo.

It won't be THAT close, however. Remember, *most* k-16 turbo'd 996TTs with intake/exhaust/chip trap in the 122-123 mph area (lower than that C6 Z06 which is in the 125-126mph area). Divexxtreme was able to trap 126mph, but only on race gas. On pump gas, he would lose a few mph. My guess is that his car is pushing around 540-550bhp on race gas and 520ish hp on pump gas. It's going to take at least 530hp on a 996TT or 997TT turbo in order to keep up with the lighter (by about 400lbs) Z06. Also, the gear ratios will come into play as well. The Z06 has great gearing (1st runs out at 61mph) and a high(er) rpm range. I will be curious to see how that is worked out on the new 997TT.

Interesting. I have a video of me that I posted a few months ago where I did 3 highway runs vs a GT3. We started in 2nd gear each time I do believe (30, 40, 60mph or so?). I pulled him every time. We each had a passenger. He had intake as his only mod and I had exhaust. I was running my heavy, 19" HREs and he was running the stock GT3 wheels.

I would put a few cars on him each time. Maybe I have a strong car?

Yea, great guy. He doesn't have a lot of seat time in the Z but he's a good driver. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future. But then, George is as bad as Watt, never never keeps a car longer than 6 months

Yea, I know George, I knew him from back in my Viper days. Tell him Roy says hello.

Roy

ps. I may call him for his impressions. I have a Z on order but I'm thinking of canceling because the dealer is pissing me off...

After talking with George you may cancel the order. I think I like his Z more than he does

I'll say this, the Z is a great looking car, and will snap your neck if you aren't ready for it.

George, I hope you're reading this
Ok, I am really confused. What is a "PSI 480"??

Is this a modded GT2 or some sort of modded 996TT?? Someone inform the noob..

I believe most of the magazine 0-60 times for the 2001-02 Turbos are similar to the numbers I've seen for the new Z06. No question the Z has some early traction problems which would be more evident in the 0-60 than the quarter. With almost 100 HP and less weight you'd expect the Z to leave the old Turbo for dead but I'm sure it wouldn't if they were tested together at same track with same driver. I'm sure new Turbo vs. Z tests will be forthcoming when the car comes out. We'll see...

Just look at the 'ring times. The C5 Z06 was dead-even with the 996TT on the 'ring. They aren't pretty when you compare the two. Do I think that the new 997TT will beat out the 996 GT2? No.

Porsche Carrera GT 7:32
Mercedes-McLaren SLR 7:40
Corvette Z06 (c6) 7:42
Porsche 996 GT2 7:42
Jaguar XJ220 7:46
Lamborghini Murciélago 7:50
Lamborghini Gallardo 7:52
GT3 - New 7:54
Corvette Z06 (c5) 2004 7:56
Porsche 911 Turbo (996) 7:56
Chevrolet Corvette C6 7:59

I love my 996TT and would never give it up for the C6 Z06, but Chevy really did make an incredible car in terms of performance. The build quality, interior, materials, etc, leave a lot to be desired, but the fact that it is a pure performance car cannot be contested.

Does anyone have a video of a stock(ish) 996TT racing a C6 Z06 on the highway or something of the sort? In terms of performance and ONLY performance, the bar has been raised as of late. 500hp + low weight + gearing + brakes + stiff frame = a hard combination to beat

The new 997TT is going to weigh more, so even with the new hp jump, I doubt that the times will jump up that much over the 996TT. Only time will tell I guess. How do the times of the 996TT vs 996TT x50 vs 996TT S compare on the track? Is there THAT much of a difference or is it rather subtle?

Ruiner are you stock?

This was stock GT3 vs Murci from a light for about 1 mile and we pulled 5 car lengths..

The Turbo race was a lightly modded TT against another Murci and we had him by 3 car lengths in a short race

of course this is SF an tempature and such play a huge factor here a 100 degree day is not a good day for any car and both these races were in the summer...as well race #1 fairly speaking the GT3 driver got the jump and the Lambo driver waited before taking off...in race 2 it was more like from a 10-15mph roll..

Stock? No, but neither was the GT3:
me - exhaust + heavy 19" HREs + 1 passenger
GT3 - intake + stock GT3 wheels + 1 passenger
