First Track Day

First Track Day
I had my first track day today at Big Willow. What an experience! One to remember for a lifetime!
I have to say, I have a new found respect for you serious track guys. It takes a lot of skill, experience, and concentration to drive fast on the track, but what a thrill it is. Thanks to this site for giving me the opportunity to meet a great group of guys and being able to have such an experience.
Also, it was an honor to receive instruction from Craig Stanton. He is a master at his craft and a true gentleman.
Thank you to everyone today for including me in your group!

It only takes once and you are bitten just like the MOD bug! After my first track event I couldn't get enough. And you are so right about respecting people who can drive on the track.
I have told this story before but it is worth repeating with a lot of new faces and owners on board. My first Porsche was a 1997 993 turbo and I thought I was a pretty good driver. Went to my first track event at Mid-Ohio and thought I show these boys a thing or two!
DUH! I went out and had this 944 turbo on my ***, I could pull him on the straights but in the twisties he was all over me. You can guess what happened I spun out and he flew by. My first session out I think I spun like 3 times, well the Chief Instructor pulled me in and said listen I know you have a fast car but you can't drive for ****! Now settle down or we will have to kick you butt outta here!
Boy did I need that, after the little talk I worked with my instructor and learned a ton! Then, I went to a bunch more events, did some Skippie training and raced in their Formula Dodge series.
Love the track but you must learn how to drive.
Have fun!

Garrett,
Glad you had FUN. It was a great day and you were getting quite fast as your comfort level increased. Of course, having a champion race car driver as a coach does help a little.
Small private track days are the best.

I think next time out I will change the program to stock, so I can focus on the line and track more and not so much the tail of the car and the power delivery. Yes, a new addict is born!

Is that pic of you in the Elise coming off the skidpad turn at Streets?

One time, I came out of turn 9 with the CGT on my tail so I hammered it and ran it wide open to 7000rpm in 5th down the straight. I think I pulled him a couple of lengths. His comment, that is a fast car!

That's exactly my plan. Have as much seat time as possible with the stock GT2 plus Moton and weight reduction. Power upgrades in the Summer.
