swapping cdr-23 heaunit for oem navi
Since the search function isnt working, how do i go about swapping the bose headunit from an 03 turbo (with fiber optic wiring from the headunit - cdr 23) to the oem navi from an 03.
Is this a plug n play swap? Any additional equipment that i need to purchase aside from the actual navigation headunit and discs?
Anyone selling used or want to trade + cash?
Thanks
MIke

i've done this twice on my two different '03 porsches. go over to renntech and use the search function. there are a slew of additional parts you need - such as fiberoptic cable, antenna, antenna wiring, etc. it's not that difficult of a job but just takes awhile. you definitely need to follow the TSB instructions over on Renntech. They are free as long as you're a paying member.

Lizard, thanks for info?
question. why would i need another fiber optic cable and antenna wire if i have them already from the back of the cdr-23?
is this like a conversion piece?
also, since you done this twice on an 03, is thier a way to connect an aftermarket navi headunit with stock amps/wires/speakers?
thanks

actually - you don't need another fiber optic cable. i added the CD4 changer at the same time so that is why i needed a different cable.
if you have fiberoptics, then you cannot add an aftermarket headunit to your factory amp - you must change the amp as well if you go with something aftermarket and do away with the fiberoptic crap

illm3, i would have been interested if it was an 03+.
lizard...so your saying if i go aftermarket navi i need to get a good amp to go along with it.
am i safe with keeping the existing speakers? or swap them out as well while im at it?
i guess it depends how much i can get an 03 navi for.
if i can find one for 1k used ill just go that route.
If thier expensive i guess its more worthwhile to go aftermarket...

i'm not sure about using older nav units with your fiberoptic system? I would guess not but i cannot say for sure. anyways, i'd opt for the newest nav system available. i bought mine for around $1500 used from a board member. the additional parts ran about $200 (but that did include the fiberoptic cable which you will not need)
as far as changing out the speakers? i don't know. maybe so as the output from the new amp will not be fiberoptic and the speakers are running on a fiberoptic system - maybe you can just change out the wiring? i'd check over at renntech.org. a guy named Loren should have all your answers
good luck
