Used Cars and Paint Meters: do they work on plastic bumpers?

So, I have a friend whose car had a bumper scraped as someone was either entering or exiting the parking space next to him. The question is, if the fiberglass/plastic bumper is repainted, will it show on a paint meter when being checked by a used car manager, etc?

If it can be detected, he may be better off trying to just fix it as best as he could otherwise a re-spray may be worth it.

Thoughts?

paint meters work by being a magnet. the thicker the paint, the "less" magnetic ability so they can register a higher number. they will not work on anything other than metal - so bumpers, polyurethane skirts, fiberglass decklids are all undetectable to paint meters

Scott, if you are concerned that a bumper respray will be detectable, no the device won't help....but a very good, well-trained professional body guy WILL likely know through other investigation.

Email me for more info.

Lightbulb paint re-spray

repainted bumpers, doors ect... bad re-sprays are always obvious once you know what to look for. metallic paints are hard to tint (color match) also a blotchy appearance , light and dark spots, then look for texture differentials(matching the orange peel texture from panel to panel, only a quality body shop can pull this off. finally dirt in the paint , fisheyes, solvent pop, and primer shrinkage, which is caused by bad or rushed prep, also overspray, and tape lines caused by bad masking job, quality re paint is NEARLY undetectable, this is why quality paint work is so hard to find, and costs more.
