Filters Directly on Turbos Questions

I have seen some posts about this. but no real DIY info (unless it really is just put them on and change nothing else)

I plan on running a custom mafless tune, and am curious as to what needs to happen when you essentially bypass the factory intake.

I plan to leave the factory intake ducting in place with the exception of removing the stock airbox & venting the DV's to the atompshere

I know there are some vac lines that plumb into the intake ducting, Is it possible to just leave it all alone and simply run the filters?

Or do steps need be taken / lines re routed?

I wouldn't. I'd go for fender intakes or replacing the intake tubing with an aftermarket setup. Sucks too much dirt and water there and the stock filter box is good to 700hp while doing a great job cleaning the air. Do you need to pass emissions? If you bypass the intake you would just need a filter for the oil tank vent tube. The diverter valves vent to the left hand inlet, that can just go to atmosphere.

agree, markski sells a nice setup that is 95% as good as filters on turbos, but no downside.

Can you run this setup, and leave everything in the engine bay stock? I assume something would need to be done with old intake pipe on the turbos, maybe they can be capped or redirected. Run Mafless tune, but keep the MAF connected. Would want to keep it stealth to pass visual smog in SoCal.

You would be best off with one of the inlet setups that look kind of stock and keeping the stock air box. You really don't need to switch filters unless you are making really big power.

I make 773whp at 1.3 bar on pump 91 with the OEM airbox. You don't necessarily need filters on turbos to make great power....

Filters on turbos come with numerous drawbacks and filters over the intercoolers will have a negative impact on the airflow as the ducting is compromised. Additionally, the piping in the wheel well will prevent one from running very wide rear wheels and tire set up, anything over 12" or 315 will generally be a no go..

But the sweet turbo spool noise with filters on turbo! I kid...

@pwdrhound, what intake plumbing do you run and recommend?

I run the stock airbox connected to a RUF intake manifold (simply a larger version of the OEM manifold) which then splits and connects to 2.75" I.D. hard plastic turbocharger intake pipes. The RUF manifold is unobtaininum but Speedtech makes a set up which is effectively very similar. That is what I would recommend.
