Vertically Hinged Doors ... Thoughts?

What do you guy think of vertically hinged doors on a 911? Tacky or cool? I can't decide. I love them on other cars but can't figure out if they ruin what a true Turbo is. Here's some pics:

Thoughts / opinions are appreciated.

If they reduce the structural integrity or torsional rigidity then YES. I also think its poser since you arn't driving an exotic i.e. lambo.

I know that these get a lot of flack on this board. It would seem as though any door hinge mod gets attacked as trying to be a lambo or being too over the top. Personally, I think this looks great. It's something to add delight when the car aint movin. If performance isn't hindered and this car - that so many of you make in to a true supercar, wants to look like just that, well - I'm all for it.

HEY TTGANSTA ...

I love your list of rides. hahahaaha What a riot dude!!

Thanks for the replies guys. I am more against it than for it but I still think this looks pretty cool on this red 911. I don't think they would look right on my Turbo, which is already striking by itself. That site has some pretty interesting mods though. But my primary focus is DRIVING PERFORMANCE as I'm sure it is for the vast majority here.

To me they scream:

"I am not a serious car driver, I am a car Fashionista
with money to waste on looking different with no
purpose."

Why risk door seal, rattle, and window fitment and wind
noise issues unless you want to do a lot of posing with
open doors in front of restaurants?

All that says is that you don't like the look. The same could be said about clear markers, body kits, or for that matter Lamborghinis. If the only thing anyone cared about was performance, there would be 5 performance cars each priced $100k more than the next and you get to buy what you can afford. The point is that this is a mod for the purpose of personalization and beauty. I love Lamborghinis, but they are not as fast as what the money you pay for one can buy. Is that then to say that anyone rocking a Lambo isn't a serious driver?

Oh wow ! Listen guys, to me its immature and ghetto period. In my honest opinion they are tacky and dont belong on any car except for the ones it came with from factory. Added lambo doors is also a BIG TIME HEADACHE I work for a Hummer and Cadillac Dealership and believe me when I tell you NOT ONE customer with lambo doors enjoy getting in there cars. These lambo doors dont allow proper movement to allow opening of the door all the way they open a good 50 % less and then they go up. And when these lambo doors do go up every one watching is suddenly wowed by the effect....but which only leaves a nasty look on everyones face after they hear the door grumbling or rubbing agaisnt the front fenders. So Yea in my honest opinion I rather drive with NO doors than drive with modified lambo doors!!!!!! I personally think they only look good on the lambo. Besides the last thing you want to hear is a kid with a civic say you have lambo doors...DAMMM ME TOO !

Well said but no, everyone rocking a lambo does not mean they are not serious drivers. I think any older drivers out there who add lambo doors to a car and that does not bring lambo doors.....looks tacky, it takes away from the car. lambo doors should stay on lambos which with out any reasonable doubt they are AWESOME cars. I would never take a girl out on a date in my 996tt if it had lambo doors honestly think about it !! " OMG wait your car isnt a lamborghini "..... what do you say then uhhh I customized it so that it LOOKS like a lamborghini......NO so therefore I say ditch the doors and spent your money on something better that you will enjoy more, touch screen tv with dvd player, stereo system, roll bars, body kit, rims, interior etcs. thats jus my $0.02 cents

The 911 door seal is not great as it is. Lambo doors will probly make it worse.

Imagine pulling up to a group meet with those doors. It looks embarrasing IMO. Unless you own either a rice machine or a true exotic, it'll never fly!
