Do radar detectors really help? If so, which is a great model?

All my cars are tinted (15%side and 5%rear) and each is equiped with a V1. I have not experienced ANY ISSUES with the window tint and the operation of the V1. Also remember the doppler effect as to radar...it will bounce of and the V1 will pick up on that... The car that I had an issue with is on the Mercedes Benz due to the 'shielded windows'...there are only specific points to mount the V1/Fasttrack and that is in the MB owners manual...enjoy your V1, you own the best..

but remember, you are seeing his radar as he is shooting OTHER traffic.. as mentioned before, if you are the only traffic or the first traffic and he is smart and can see that you are possibly speeding, he will shoot you and only you, and in that case his weapon is instant and you are caught..
This is officially the best explanation ever, I loved it from the first time I heard it! Also I agre, V1 is the only way to go. I personally have either owned or driven with just about everything out there and V1 takes the cake.

As for tint, obviously the more tint the less effective the detector, I would probably try out a V1 and see how it works with your setup. If it doesn't work well, I would probably go with external sensors, such as a K40 system or and Escort SRX.

W8MM stated that the tint at the top of the windshield does not reduce laser detection range. The way I understand it the tint blocks sunlight so the detector can see laser more clearly .
