Tire Rubbing problem with oversize tires
Last year I put on GT2 size tires (235/40/18 - 315/30/18) on my 996TT and went throught one set on Michelin PS2 street and one and a half set of Michelin Cups... and I loved both tires...
HOWEVER, the larger tires did rub in the wheel well, making a couple of burnt holes. unfortunate but no big deal.
NOW, I am putting in a new suspension and slamming the car down and some camber, I fear that the rubbing will be pretty bad.
Did your tires rub when you guys put in the GT2 sizes? what did you do about it? rollback the wells? spacers?

even GT2 rubs if u run a aggressive camber. we've put 5mm spacers in the past to prevent the issue. like u said it's not a big deal but when u set up the car just make sure everything is right & not rubbing too much. roll the fenders as well i suggest.

Thanks you for your replies.
I think the wheels are a big part of the issue, I think I have no problems with the BBS gt3 cup wheels I use for the cup tires... I think the problem is with the stock wheels with gt2-size PS2s... I've been trying to avoid buying a third set of wheels.
If I put spacers on the stock wheels, what is the downside to spacers? will they get in my way as I frequently swap wheels?
also, curious about your feel with the bigger tires, given the taller sidewalls (at least visually) did you guys feel any lower steering response (already pretty bad on these damn VWs)? I didn't feel much lower steering response and bigger patches are always good, so I'll keep using the 235-315 setup.
again, thanks.

Anyone know of a fender rolling tool that will work on the rear of a turbo besides a baseball bat? Also what is best procedure for doing? Mine don't rub but less than a fat finger of clearance. Too close for comfort.

There is a tool called Fenderoller that you can rent. The Tirerack has one but the wait list is like 2 years long. It can be purchased for about 300 bucks or if you search on Ls2.com there are usually 1 for rent for about 60 dollars.
I used on on my Firebird about 2 years ago and it worked great. You will need a heat gun to soften the paint so that it will be less prone to cracking.
It is sold by the Eastwood company. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT
