GT700 Wastegate Adjustment Needed

I want to adjust my waste gates so they will allow boost to hold at 1.3 bar. I'm currently only able to hold 1.1 bar with very brief periods of 1.2 bar. When I had the GT640 kit with the FVD Aluminum intake plenum, I was seeing 1.3 bar (and correspondingly frequent throttle body shut down. This confuses me to this day as I was told the GT640 programming had the 1.3 bar TB shut down bypass. Isn't this true? My experience indicated otherwise.

Now that I have the GT700 kit and the included intake piping along with the big throttle body kit and modified Y-pipe, I’m actually seeing 0.2 bar less boosts that with the 640 kit/FVD intake. This leads me to believe the FVD flows better than the components on the 700 kit. Needless to say with 0.2 bar less boost, I am seeing less power than with the 640/FVD package. I would like to replace the EVO intake with the FVD piece to restore my 1.2-1.3 bar boost level, but the engine would have to be dropped and the FVD piece has been sold. L

To restore my boost to 1.3 bar, I am going to turn the nuts on the waste gate actuator 1 - 1.5 turns (clockwise). Do I need to go buy a jack and jack stands? I had a quick look yesterday an I can see the driver side actuator but the passenger side turbo must be flipped up side down (?)

Can anyone confirm if all GT700 updated ECU’s have the 1.3 bar throttle body shut down bypass installed? I don’t want to go through this and get the dreaded TB shut down crap again.

Mike

Mike,

This is very interesting as I hit and hold 1.3 bar on a regular basis and spike to 1.4 momentarily. I wonder why my setup does this as is?

Perhaps your waste gates were set-up originally for an ECU with the TB shut down fix installed. I'm quite sure I didn't have the TB fix with my 640 kit and my waste gates were set up in conjunction with this. When I upgraded to the 700 kit, the turbos remained on the car and the ECU was upgraded to the 700 file. I'm not sure if the TB shut down fix was installed at the same time. Hopefully it was. None the less, the turbos are still set up for the 640 file WITHOUT the TB shut down. This is my guess.

Do I need to buy a jack?

Stephen said that all GT series tuning kits have the TB shutdown bypassed.
Zippy, you should be at 1.3 bars sustained... and if ur running only 1.1 sustained... ur loosing alot of power at that stage...
give it a try..

I currently have a gt640 package and I see 1.3 all the time. I will be doing the gt700 very soon and I hope I will see the same 1.3 bar.

What does the larger TB and modified y pipe add in power?

Thanks

Jags

FAT-911 is infamous around these parts
Mike,

I have the GT640 and always see up to 1.4 without TB shutdown, if I get the chance I will measure my wastegate settings for you.

Tough to say in my circumstance. As I was at 1.2-1.3 with the 640/FVD and only holding 1.1 with the 700/TB upgrade, I'm currently putting out less power than before. When I get back to holding 1.3 bar it should be different.

Thanks man. I'm under the impression that 1 - 1 1/2 turns should get me from 1.1 sustained to 1.3 sustained.

Do I need a car jack to get at the passenger side nut?

I assume that's the case with 640 kits sold with the fuel pressure regulator. Mine came without. I assume I bought the kit prior to the FPR being included???? I was told the TB shut down fix was already part of the file at the time.

With my gt640 I was first seeing 1.5bar and getting TB shut down. A fix to the ECU settled it down to 1.3bar with spikes of 1.4bar.

From what i understand, the car will still be boosting at the prior levels, but the diode makes the car believe it is boosting less to avoid a TB shutdown. So you are actually tricking the ecu.

I'm going to have a look to see if I have the diode. Is it easily recognizable?
