996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

How do you satisfy a "no front plate" ticket? Also, a word of warning about Glendale.

Actually my brother is a CHP officer. He only writes this stuff/crap up if :

1. You are doing another offense ala speeding, DUI, etc.
2. If you are acting like a ***** to him

Glendale cops are especially bad. Just the whole department lately. & I have friends in the Glendale PD too. Just top to bottom they are getting really arrogant. Also of the Corvettes that I have seen here, don't think I have ever seen 1 front license plate.

Front Plate States SUCK

With all the referendums in Cali and all the attention paid to government spending and waste . . . where's the petition to put the DELETE FRONT PLATE referendum on the ballot.

i am pretty sure you are also guaranteed a front plate ticket if you drive into LAX. it took me 2 tickets at LAX before i realized that it was going to happen every single time.

the cop that ticketed me was friendly, but really snide abou the whole thing. i dropped off my gf at the terminal and started pulling out. lights on the bike go on immediately and he pulls me over. he chuckles and says, "don't worry, it's just a front plate ticket." i asked him what i had to do and he said, "tape it on, pay the fine, then pull it back off." i looked at him a bit confused and he said, "don't worry, it's cheap and you can undoubtedly afford it. just consider it luxury tax."

that last line floored me.

what a stupid law indeed. But I dont think you have to drill holes if you have a standard bumper with the pre-drilled holes. Anybody know where to get a decent frame with holes wide enough to fit on? And how do even get behind the holes to put it on?

my new car had holes in it when I bought it, I was LIVID, but I wasn't able to find a car in the color I wanted w/o them at any dealer.

I'm getting them filled and then will make a custom bracket that attaches underneath the grill in the bumper and comes up out in front of the bumper, like this:

If you take your stock license plate mounting frame (the black plastic one), you can tie wrap it, using long tie wraps, around the vents in the middle of your front bumper. It will sit lower than a properly mounted plate would, but it is surprisingly secure. Remember to put something in between the plastic mount and your bumper to prevent scratches or creases.

If you're around UCLA or Sherman Oaks this weekend, I'd be happy to help you rig it.

I'm in Glendale a lot. I've seen people get pulled over for tint in that city. It's very tightly controlled, so be careful.

I just ziptie it on. They can't make you drill holes in your car. All they want to see is some sort of permanent attachment, I suppose zipties are argueable, but I haven't had a problem yet. Get it signed off, then cut the ties.

I got one at LAX too. While parking in the center "city owned" lot. They charge you $30 a day to park there and then sweep for no front plates!! As*holes!!!! This was in my Suburban. Now I keep the extra plate in the car and post it on the dash.

BTW mine at LAX did not require a sign off on it. Maybe because I was not moving when it was written? I wonder if there is a distinction between being pulled over while driving and them writing one on a parked car?

Glendale PD are notorious for harassing. I could write a novel on what they've put me through when I was seeing a girl who lived out there.

Does that really work? Just posting the front plate on the dash while parking?

I have done it twice since with no problems. But I am sure they could nail you if they want to.
