Fully built 996 Reliability question.

For the gt750 all the way up to the 950's or higher.... how often do your cars need maintnace. Are there failures with rings, or bent rods? Also, do your cars need to run on 100 octane or better?

It depends on how it is built. KA will have not problems in the upper hp ranges. S Car Go is providing a 60,000 mile or one year warranty (whichever comes first) for KA's motor.

Part of the build process includes stronger rods, so they should not be a problem. I have not heard of anyone bending Carillo rods on a 996TT.

As to the octane, it depends entirely on the programming (e.g., timing, boost, etc). Most of these "built" cars can adjust the programming (through different means) to account for the octane they are running on any particular day, so as to retard or advance the timing, and increase or descrese the boost, to match the octane. Personally, I only run 104 octane, so I have my programming dialed in accordingly (although I do have the ability to switch to a lower octane program if necessary).

I will run 93 octane on low boost and can go as high as C16 for high boost...
better fuel=more boost.

I have about 8K on the Protomotive car and I am happy to report that there are NO ISSUES . The car is on its 14th drum of C16 (117octane -best turbo fuel in my opinion), and she is very happy on high boost (above 1.5bar). I do service the car every 4K, I do this with all ICBM's...that is change all the oil, including diff and tranny fluid...after all oil does break down and it does get dirty...and change plugs...The air filter gets changed at every second rotation (8K) along with the fuel filter... hope this answers some of your questions...

What's a drum of C16 cost? Is it a 50 gallon drum? 117 octane must be insane.

My 'wholesale' cost is $395/drum of 54gallon...at the track it costs $11/gallon and it works...I also have a drum of 'VP IMPORT' which is rated at 121octane..The VP IMPORT gas alone makes a 60hp difference (with no tuning) on the Supra!

Do you really feel a difference between regular gas and higher octane gas? Where can I try this gas around Los Angeles?

I dont look at it that way...the race gas is better for the engine and under high boost its the price of admission that one has to pay! Let me take you for a ride and you will retract that statement .
