Replacement Battery?

Hey all

I just had my car jump started for the 4th time in its 2.5 year life. I was curious on what the reasons were.

I drove over 200 miles on monday and left the car in my garage till this morning. I do admit the garage is not heated and is a bit frigid, but my BMW has no problem being left unattended for in this cold garage. Is this a problem with the batter?

Is there a replacement battery that I can purchase? or are all batteries like this factory one and will need to be stimulated every other day?

Also, whats the best lightweight battery for our cars and where can I get one for a good price?? Thanks

Thanks

Preeth

If it's dead, replace it with a battery of like kind and quality as the OEM. Always remove the key from the ignition since that will drain the battery, also I recommend using the porsche battery maintainer(trickle charger) when the car is not driven 3-4 days or more...

My 2 1/3 year old battery recently died, I had it replaced under warranty. I spent less than 45 minutes at the dealer. If they think you don't drive it regularly they may not warranty it. If you have to buy a battery get an Optima, they are widely available and save some weight (20#?). They appear to last about twice as long as conventional batteries and cost about $100. You have to get a slightly longer ground cable and drill some holes in the battery mounting plate. With a good battery your car should start after sitting a month or so from what I have read. Make sure you didn't leave the overhead interior light on after your trip.

Griots Garage www.griotsgarage.com makes a "Battery Drain Connector" that connects to your battery. It is very small. What it does is electronicly disconnect your battery when the charge level gets to the charge needed to start the car. That way when you get into the car it always starts. In addition your battery never completely drains. I believe the cost is about $70 and installs in about five minutes.

I use a dry cell Odyssey PC925. 23 lbs, and it can sit for weeks at a time and start great.

viperbob,

That Odyssey battery is a little over thirteen pounds lighter than the stock battery. The Odyssey battery we are using is about twenty-eight pounds lighter and I'm sure it would not hold a charge as long.
