Porsche 959
As a former 996TT owner, I am posting here (there isn't a 959 forum) because have spent many years on this forum and recognize the depth of experience here.
I have an opportunity to buy a 959 (CA legal) in the next few weeks and am looking for comps to negotiate the price. Does anyone have any information on sale prices or current cars that are available other than dupont registry. Thanks for your help.

Canepa Design was instrumental in the passing of the "show and display" legislation, which allows these sought after vehicles to be driven in the United States for the first time. In addition, Canepa Design has spent three years research and development to bring this awesome supercar to a new level of performance including California and Federal emissions compliance.

I just saw your post with the excerpt from CANEPA's site...consider your source.
I did read your post, and you are still not correct. I didn't claim that you said he imports them. I did say that Canepa isn't authorized to "legalize" 959s. That is the job of an approved ICI--and he is not.
The only thing he does is modify the cars, which is not what you wrote.

Total power output from the Canepa modified 959 rises to 576 hp and 505 ft·lbf of torque, making the car capable of low 3 second 0-60 times and top speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. Canepa also makes modifications to the 959´s super lightweight magnesium wheels, allowing them to be fitted with a modern Michelin high performance tire capable of handling the increased performance. Although the modifications may be tempting, whether a car as rare as the 959 should be "molested" or changed from the factory settings is a matter of debate.

Sorry, ZLP, the only one not clear on this is you.
Go to the DOT's site and research the process of importing & legalizing a car on the Show & Display list.
Or, do a search on this forum for violin959's posts. Or, ask Deanger about it since he's gone through the process.
Please don't post any more unverifiable Internet quotes--especially from Canepa. Instead, please show me documentation from the proper authorities that supports your claim.
Thank you.

I have spoken to Bruce Canepa, and his 959's are US/California legal cars. He is the one who got cars for Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the like. I was looking for a 959 for a client, and Canepa is where I went. Price wise, it won't be the best though. It also depends if you want a Comfort or Sport package. Essentially, the Sport package cars were the ones meant for the US (about 29 cars). There are a couple of "new" cars available as well.

The one in Autoweek sold at auction has some miles on it, so I thought that was a good price for that car for the seller. I have a friend who bought an S 2 years ago with 2,400 kilos on it, in as new condtion, left hand drive, for $275,000. Seems like the price is holding firm or if the auction is an indication it is getting a little stronger. If PRS29 can find you a "new" car that would be the way to go long term - certainly you can drive them and they will still be low milage collectables.
Anyone know now that Andial has shut their doors for good where to service the 959? Maybe Porsche Motorsports race shop (took over Andial building) will handle them.
Good luck with you search.
