KPV,

EVOMS recently had a sale on them. I believe about $860. Other than that, try Gert at Carnewal.

I believe Ruf uses a partially enlarged intake. Years ago that was one of their secrets to better torque numbers.

Chad,
That is funny, because my torque figures were higher across the board. Next time I see Sean, I will look at his intake tract. I assume this would appear as a change to his Y pipe? Or is it something that I will not see?

Buddy,
I really like the idea of the Gemballa IC but man, how can one justify $4500 for that when the performance increase is so unquantifiable??? In a perfect world, I would like to have the GT2 IC's and the Gemballa third IC mounted atop the engine, but man is it expensive!!!!

One more question......
What is done to the intake tract on the RUF cars?
KPV, this may answer your question....Ruf intake is on left..

on the last pic, you can see that the body of the Ruf intake is wider and is missing the "angle" seen on the stock intake...

Gentlemen....just had an opportunity to log in and catch up w/ the forum....wow....did this turn into a debate of sorts.

As I've stated in the AWE Dyno post, I think in pure cost-vs-value Ken's the winner....also consider he did most of his own installation given his uncanny/superior mechanical abilities. Factoring in cost of labour I still think Ken's would prevail in the value equation.

Having said that I fully concur with Buddy’s profound assessment:

Here is the deal, RUF cars are awesome!

EVO/PES/IMAGINE AUTO cars are awesome!

Go with whatever floats your boat and be happy for the other guy!

I love Sean's RUF, I went with EVO/PES whatever both cars ROCK!

Nuff said!

I love you all!

I am entirely happy with my car and I am equally happy with cost in terms of the Ruf brand quality and service commitment. Also bear in mind that perspective and relativity matters to some extent…..I came out of an E39 M5 with fair amount of mods yielding marginal HP gains. Dinan (as previously mentioned by Fred) offered a 75 HP enhancement for the staggering cost of circa $20k which I elected not to do because I thought cost was out of line w/ value. In the case of the RUF R conversion, I got nearly 200 reliable HP value for my cost.

In the end, the only thing matters to me when I evaluate a purchase is to ensure that “cost†is commensurate with “valueâ€. It’s fair to say that any subsequent Porsche I acquire I’ll do the very same thing….European Delivery directly to Phaffenhausen for the conversion package of choice.

Lastly, the most important factor is happiness…..when Ken and I drive together we both have s#$% eating grins on our respective faces….he enjoys his car tremendously and I feel likewise about mine! What else matters?

Sean,

I agree, this whole discussion is so subjective because it just comes down to personal preference in the end.

How's your beast man ?

RufMD...my beast is awesome...I've logged 8.5k miles so far including to long runs...one to Raleigh, NC and another to Alexandria VA. the combination of drivability and numbing power is unbelievable. Every time I dirive I get that same butterfly feeling as I did the first time I sat behind the wheel. I bet you feel the same!

p.s....are you planning to go to the National Meet?...would luv to hook up with fellow R Turbo owners!

I think there was some debate earlier, but I do wish to state, I am not part of it. As always, I am very interested in learning as much as I can about all things Porsche. I have the utmost respect for all members here. Sean and I have never discussed his intake and I am very intrigued by the intake tract. I appreciate your posts RufMD. They are very informative. It appears RUF manufactures the Y section at the base of the intact tract and bolts it to the upper portion. This allows them to use the larger hoses to the turbos.

I have another question...........
Does RUF use stock K24 turbos in their 550 package?

Correction.
I see the entire intake is replaced.

Can I purchase the RUF intake tract alone?

Ken,

The parts I talked about have been shown above. Remember, Ruf was ahead of everyone at one time. EVOMS has learned and made adjustments with their intake as of late. I learned the Ruf secret about two years ago. I'm am sure both of the cars have enlarged intake modifications. As you can see, this isn't the "Y" part. This part is actually hard to see when looking into the engine compartment.

Now here are some pics of the best intake on the market today bar none.
