Lambos vs my GT2: Join them or stomp them?

Hey guys,

I went for a ride in a couple of Lambos (Murcis and Gallardos) last weekend and now have Lambo fever. I was thinking about a Gallardo last year, but the desire subsided. However, after hearing the scream of the Lambos and wild exteriors, I have the fever again. I love the look and sound of the Gallardo, but the power is definitely lacking. In fact, the Murci does not feel any faster than my GT2.

I have been slowly improving the handling of my GT2 with the addition of Motons, lightweight Kinesis wheels and GT3 seats. However, I don't know if my modded GT2 handles as well as the Gallardo still.

The next mod I am considering is adding the Evo GT700 kit. From what I read, the car will be an absolute monter with another 250 more horsepower on tap. However, after my ride in the Lambos, I am hesitant to write the $30k check for the GT700.

I have been looking at several 2005 Gallardos and wonder if I should join the Lambo crowd and sell the GT2 or just punish them at the stoplights. As mentioned previously, I love the look and sound of the Gallardo, but wonder if the lack of power will bore me soon. Will the GT700's brutal acceleration make for a longer lasting relationship? I considered having both, but the wife demanded an SL55 this spring.

What would you guys do? GT700 my GT2 or get a Gallardo?

Thanks
George

I love the ferocious sound of 06 Gallardo on the track. I would have them both if possible. Regarding your concern of the Gallardo lacking power, here 's a $30 k twin turbos package 650hp options.

Unfortunately, I can only have one at this time. Also, I saw your thread comparing the 04 vs 06 Gallardos, which was very informative. Also, I am not buying a new 06 Gallardo, I am looking for a depreciated low mileage 2005.

Would you choose the Gallardo over your GT2? How about the inclusion of the GT700 engine package? I can only imagine the face contorting acceleration the GT700 has. It sounds so fun. However, I still love the sound of the Gallardo 10x better than 996 turbos.

Thanks for your feedback.

Joe, would you choose a highly modded GT2 over the 06 Gallardo you have on order?

I personally like the 2001 6.0...It is the only year of production for that car...Here is a video of me at the track before the 300shot of NOS was added..

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/f...ca5e558ff2.htm

I walked the car from the line (2.4sec 60foot) because I have been warned for not bringing a helmet (they did not want me to run faster than 13's) my best off the juice run was a 11.89 at 122mph...

And here is an 'after' shot...

Just get the Lambo. The GT700 thrill will be shortlived. Seems like you're trying to get your GT2 to be "like the lambo" or better, that to me just makes it seem like you should just get the Lambo.

It sounded much better in the video I have of the two of us on the freeway. I'll see if I can find it somewhere.

That's a sweet setup, but the GT2/700 will still be considerably faster than a TT Gallardo

Thats a tough question. The gallardo is beautiful and exotic but on the other hand, slower and almost too shocking to have. If I had a gallardo, it would probably spend even more time in the garage than my turbo. The beauty of the porsche is that you feel comfortable driving it and can do so in relative anonymity. It will be hard to live without the crushing torque of a tuned GT2. If had I to make the choice, I would take the GT2.

I agree with RWM514 here plus I've heard that Porsche are a lot more reliable than Lambo...

It all depends on what you want for this car. Pure speed or look and joy ride at weekend. Ask yourself which part is more important for you, then you will have the answer!

but you know the best solution is to own both

I had both..04 Galalrdo and 03 GT2 - one time heavily modded. The exhilleration of the 8500 RPM Redline and exoticness outweigh'd the mainstream design'd 4th Porsche at the time. MY GT2 was a monster to say the least - tuned by EVO and Imagine auto putting down 631RWHP. I opted for the gallardo.

Today I have an 06 G and 04 996TT which is on its way to Imagine Auto for the GT700. Can't live without either now

Either way, you win. Gallardo will be a blast at the track as well.
