100 cell and 200 cell cats whats the diff?

Interesting topic. I would be interested to know which cats will pass California emissions. Sounds like 100 cell cats will not pass any US emissions standards but will 200 cell cats pass california emissions or do you need higher cell counts? Perhaps the California guys can chime in here.

My europipe will 'pass' any california test, but it is not a "CARB Registered" product.
There is NO "CARB Certified" or "CARB Registered" cat for a 996TT. To my knowledge.
So a very high qualify 100 cell cat, such as used in the europipe product, will pass in that it will reduce HCs by the required about. They do so via their inherent design- which is why a single EP cat is $900. Not all "100 cell" cats are equivalent. THis is a shocker to many, who jsut use the term "100 cell" as if it defines all they need to know about the cat in their exhaust.

As a point of reference, our 100 cell cats have gone 30,000 miles without triggering the CEL.

What is the big deal about triggering a CEL? If emissions check is a concern why not simply swap to cats for the test and then swap back to a cat-delete pipe for the rest of the time? Am I missing something regarding the CEL effecting the car?

My concern would be that if the CEL was lit due to the exhaust, then you would have no idea if there was an additional issue at some point that was also triggering a CEL since it's already lit. If there was a way to supress the code that triggers the exhaust CEL then it might not be as big of a concern.

Also, you can not pass an emissions test with an active CEL.

If you tune out the CELs, testing stations that perform OBD2 scans will usually find sensors in the "not ready" status (ie catalytic converter efficiency, heated oxygen sensor, secondary air system.) Most states will permit one or two sensors "not ready." But a car will likely fail with multiple sensors turned off.

You can also use extensions for the second sensors so they will get less exhaust gasses,But with a good 100 cell cat (like the Europipe) you will never get a cell, this is also the reason why Europipe exhaust are a little more expensive but these guys only uses quality parts...
Look how big the 100 cell's from europipe are (this is 997TT)

- Nigel Tufnel: These cats are 100's. Look, both are 100's...
- Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most cats are 200's?
- Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
- Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's faster? Is it any faster?
- Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's 100cpsi faster, isn't it? It's not 200cpsi. You see, most blokes, you know, will be running 200's. You've got 200's, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're running 200's. Where can you go from there? Where?
- Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
- Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
- Marty DiBergi: Put on 100's.
- Nigel Tufnel: 100. Exactly. 100cpsi faster.
- Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just run cat less?
- Nigel Tufnel: These are 100's.

Hi,
HJS is working on the data for our cats. In the mean time this is what they send me (see attached).
Our 200 Cell cats (Tuning Cats) are Axial Flow only.
Our 100 Cell cats with the PE Foil does have Axial, Diagonal, and Radial Flow.
"The 100 cell catalyst with the PE foil was created only for the use in the motor sport about the weight and backpressure reduction.
We have tested the 100 cell catalysts in a long-run test and in hand of this results HJS can not give a guarantee after 10,000 miles without a CEL.

Keep in mind our cats are Universal and not just for the Porsche 911. There maybe other manufacturers with 100 Cell Cats that may or may not cause a CEL, I have no information on them, or no comment. I can only tell you what HJS tells me regarding our cats, and you may verify everything I say with HJS.
