2nd gear pop-out and repair. kinda long
Well, I dropped my car off on June 5 at my dealer for the infamous 2nd gear pop out issue. I was going on vacation to Hawaii for 10 days and told him I would be back on June 20th. Anyway, I called a few times and was told that the engine/tranny were out and was waiting to hear from the regional rep from Porsche about repairs. Well, I spoke to the service director on Friday (23rd) and was told it is $9800 for the tranny (2 trannys available in Cali) and 30+ hours labor. He told me that Porsche NA is recommending for a tranny swap opposed to a rebuild ( I am out of factory warranty). The service director also told me that Porsche took numerous measurements and thinks the problem is from when the tranny was assembled. All measurements are fine except for the "linkage" which is loose. Basically there is no wear and tear or anything bent from my driving. Now it is a waiting game and going to be a tough road to get my extended warranty company to pay for a new tranny opposed to a rebuild. Basically my dealer and Porsche wants my warranty company to just pay for a new tranny. I was told it will take another 2 weeks.... I have my fingers crossed and hoping they will cover the repair...if so I only have a $100 deductible. Also he said that tomorrow the Porsche regional rep is meeting with my warranty company to give all measurements and recommendations.
Since the car is undergoing major surgery right now, I get to drive my Beast (see sig) 0-60 in 9.5 secs and 1/4 mile in upper 16's. Whoa, I miss some boost right now!

M3CAB,
Hope you get it covered under warranty.
Those costs are pure BS though. I have seen these trannys removed and installed in under three hours. Brian at BMC is the best in the business period. He probably repairs most of the Porsche race car tranny's around the country. Many times this is done right on the track. You can ship too and from BMC for $400.00 and labor for an tear down and rebuild is 2K, the syncro is about $100.00. If you would like his number PM me.

Thanks CJV, I hope it is covered also since the service director told me that it does seem to be more of a manufacturing defect during assembly. I know it is kinda a gray area since Porsche admits to it, but them trying to get my warranty to pay for it.

Also do you know the TSB number? I would like to read up on it since I thought Porsche was trying not to admit there were problems from reading about other members experiences.
