Mechanical differences: GT2 & TT...+ stage IV advice???

Heya fellas,

Im curious on the mechanical differences between the 996 GT2 and TT. Im aware of the larger coolers, k24 vs k16, rwd vs awd. Is there any difference in the motor itself? i.e. pistons/rods/heads etc? When working the TT with a stage IV is it basically the same as turning up the wick on the x50 with ecu/exhaust?

cheers

Jme

Stephen would answer best but form what I know the x50 comes with k24s. So they utilize ur stock k24s for the stage 4. If u have a TT then they sell u a pair of k16/24 hybrids...

From Road and Track:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=5

Anatomy of a GT2

Compared with 911 Turbo:
  • 2.7 psi more boost (from 11.8 psi to 14.5)
  • larger intercoolers
  • mufflers with less backpressure
  • 6-speed transaxle w/steel synchros (vs. brass) for durability; limited-slip w/40-percent locking under acceleration, 60-percent under braking; external cooler
  • firmer springs and shocks
  • larger anti-roll bars (front diameter increases from 0.95 in. to 1.05 in.); rear bar is smaller (0.81 in. vs. 0.87 in.) but is 4-position adjustable
  • metal bushings replace rubber in suspension links; uniball camber plates for upper strut pivots
  • adjustable ride height with threaded spring perches
  • wider wheels (8 1/2 & 12-in. widths f & r vs. 8 & 11)
  • bigger tires (235/40ZR-18 & 315/30ZR-18 vs. 225/40ZR-18 & 295/30ZR-18)
  • manually adjustable rear wing (1–6 degrees)

Weight savings:
  • deletion of driveshaft, viscous coupling, front differential, front halfshafts, four CV joints (est 150 lb)
  • spare tire deletion (29.0 lb)
  • ceramic-composite brake discs replace cast-iron units (36.6 lb)
  • rear seat deletion (17.6 lb)
  • misc.-power sunroof delete, cooling fan delete for third center-mounted radiator
Other points of interest:
Intake air enters through hollow uprights of rear spoiler; ride height is 0.78 in. lower than Turbo's; vent in front of hood reduces front-end lift, improves cooling; underbody panels reduce lift and direct air toward transaxle; ceramic-composite brakes have spiral internal vents that increase surface area for better cooling.

Thanks gents, most appreciated. Im weighing up the options on going 'upto' a stage IV on my TT. Having said that im keen to maintain the level of driveability the k16's offer now (i.e. extemely minimal lag threshold). Anyone been running a stage iv (k24's) for an extended period of time without issues? I'm aware of the many tuners who can offer the setup. Being in Australia i dont have the luxury of driving to the local to take one for a drive or have it checked should an issue arise (besides being raped on service charges by a workshop here that has nowhere near the credentials i would value to work on my car). So my decision is something i need to research carefully and this board is my only point on information without bias. I already have an EP Stg II Loud and EVOMS intake. My understanding is to reach a stage IV, i'd need K24's, plugs, giac flash and clutch to withstand the extra mumbo. Would upgrading the coolers be a necessity?

appreciate your input.

k24s are more laggy.... they should be casue they are bigger+ more power at the same boost levels...
But then we never complain that the gt2 is laggy and yet it has the very same k24s. strange ???
but it all depends.. I had them all including k24s.... great highway turbos...
K24s are very drivable.. incase ur wondering....
If u can afford it go for the GT640 form EVOMS / IA and be done with it...
U will basically take the car to its limit on the stock fuel system while utilizing a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator.
If u cant afford the gt640 then stay with k16s... get a giac program with 100 octane file and be done.
Intercoolers are nice and evoms is selling a very nice set.
good luck.

RT V12-- cooling fan delete is on side front radiator-- not central.GT3 has fans both sides. GT2 only 1??. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong. Excellent list -- add lightweight carpet.

Also thinner glass, different wheel carriers, hubs, uprights (taken from Mk. 1 GT3), less sound insulation material, no rear window wiper
