limited slip diff

Has anybody tried the PowerHaus II limited slip diff in a 996tt. I don`t care about the front/rear torque, computer can keep doing that (it`s majestic in the rain), but i`d like to change the left/right torque, so LSD...

I know some 996TT had some put in, just curious as to how, did PSM go nuts? if unplugged, did the rest of Traction Control stay online?

It`s the last thing missing for this to be a track beast, would love to hear your experiences with LSDs and/or killing PSM`s right/left control.

cheers

marco

Marco,

We have installed the OEM GT3 Motorsport as well as the Guard GT LSD in many different 996TT applications. There is no issue what so ever with the PSM. The major difference with the OEM GT3 and Guard differential is the cage of the unit. The OEM is a cast steel cage while the Guard is a CNC machined billet heat treated 4340 chromoly which is far stronger. Both the OEM and Guard differentials can be built with varying ramps and adjustable locking percentages.

There's a thread in the GT2 GT3 forum about frequent failures of the OEM limited slip.

Would an LSD help this car drag? Would it help with the axle hop?

We installed the Guard in our 996TT, which we use for drag racing. It helps eliminate wheel slippage and offers better traction.

The axel hop is most likely a stiff suspension setup, improper tires or tire over inflation.

Todd, isn't the OEM cast steel one you are refering to the Cup LSD. Porsche also makes a billet one which is the RSR LSD. 2k versus 5K a copy.

The OEM cast unit is the GT3 which I think is the Cup LSD. The Guard billet version is much less expensive as compared to the RSR LSD. Which one did you end up with in your gearbox?

Question

Thank you all for the responses. This site prevents so many trial-and-error mispurchases.

The Guard unit I believe to be similar to the Powerhaus a friend put in his 993tt.

The PSM not being affected, I guess it`s because it modifies the torque before PSM analyzes the wheel spin, right? so the LSD will shut up PSM for good by keeping the wheel speed within it`s parameters even if the car is a bit sideways, right? Please say it`s so. Sorry, I am just not very familiar with (or a fan of) PSM`s behavior. My relationship with it started on the wrong foot, by 'adjusting' me into gravel.

I see no particular reason to give PMNA more money, so I`m leaning towards the Guard unit.

Todd,

I have the Porsche RSR mechanical unit in the rear and a 993 housing with biased LSD in front. Actually my RSR unit was at Guard for awhile prior to Guard coming out with their own unit. Guard did not have their own unit at the time we were doing the install.

I'm sure the Guard unit is very good as are all Paul's products.
