Engine won't turn over??

A couple of times this week, I got in the car, depressed the clutch to the floor and turned they key.... and nothing happened! Light working fine, radio too but the engine wouldn't turn an inch. I would pump the clutch a couple of times and the starter would finally decide to spark her up. WEIRD! Any idea what the hell this is all about???

there is a starter cutoff switch on the clutch...your's could be getting bad or perhaps the floormat or pedal (do you have aftermarket pedals?) is keeping the clutch from reaching the floor and closing the switch so the starter will engage...check the pedal travel and mat and if not those get the switch checked...could also possibly be the ignition switch but most likely the clutch..

Chuck - you're right, it definately feels like the clutch switch is not being activated. That thing triggers about 1" from the floor, doesn't it? I can hear the slight 'clicking noise' at about that distance. I had the pedal mashed to the floor and had no response. Perhaps the switch is going. Stock pedals and carpet is in place. Thanks.

Cody_1 is infamous around these parts
I had the same problem. My stock floor mat was in the wrong place and didn't allow that extra 1/8" of travel for the clutch.

I'll have a peak at that pesky thing and see...

Hope that's all it is.

Thanks

Simply check the bolt that is in it. They will back off every now and then and not allow full reach from the pedal. You can see it up in there. It is a small contact switch with an arm on it.

Thanks Stephen. I had a look and saw a few things that you may have been talking about. 1) There was a brass bolt which mounted a piston that moved towards the front of the car. It looked fine. 2) there was a brass bolt/cotter pin thing a little higher up that seemed to be fine also. I'm not sure if either of these were the contact switch / arm piece you were referring to.
