Which Coil Overs Are Best for a 996TT?
Okay y'all -
I am certain this will be as big a debate as what is the best breakfast cereal, or what is the best kind of dog, but...
I am interested, immediately, in buying coil overs for my '02 996TT. I use the car on weekends for 'agressive' sport driving, not at the track. I want a good ride, but performance too. Right now the car feels sloppy stock (to me). Also, my car will be fitted with 19" wheels and will be lowered about an inch when I put tht coil overs on.
The short-list I am considering includes: PSS9's, TechArt Vario, Gemballa/H&R, etc. I wont say I have an unlimited budget, but I also dont skimp on car stuff. So...
Thanks in advance 6speeders!
Bryan
PS
I will get into the engine mods soon after suspension...need to get it up above my Viper in HP. :-)

- what would be the best setup in your opinion?
- What setup to people love/hate?
- do most people change out the sway bars or other components?
- are the external adjustments fairly easy for a mechanically inept person like myself?
- any idea what sort of budget for these baby's?
Thanks in advance 6speeders!

craig, You may have had an early set, I know Gemballa had some issues with some sets and some early purchasers. Those early issues have been resolved. I have heard more issues with the PSS9's than with the H&R's. I have had no issues and no problems with my set. Handles great.

ill, your handling issues could be because you have removed the front drive. the tt coil overs are engineered for the added weight and axles for the fwd.
I would check into replacing the front suspension carriers and other incidental suspension parts so you can get the correct type coil overs for your set up. The coil overs for the tt and other 2wd 996 are completely different types of coil over set up. It seems like the next logical thing to do once you remove the fwd
To get the tt to handle ideally once you remove the fwd, takes much more than just removal of the fwd parts.

I will also look into what you mentioned, try to really do it spot on with the conversion and with my new suspension when i get it, dialing it in perfectly!

ah..yes, I agree the H&R are somewhat more compliant than the PSS9's and other coil overs. From my experience the PSS9's felt slightly stiffer. I prefer a softer set-up due to where I tend to drive. I found the PSS9's to be abit more bouncy and the H&R more compliant. But it could have been the sways that made the difference.
