Unhappy clutch gone at 35k, dealer want $3000

I have an 03 turbo that I've use as a daily driver. I have 35k miles on it and the clutch has gone out. I have not abused this car (I didn't replace the rear tires until 27k miles). The dealer says this is a wearable item and will cost $3000 to replace. This doesn't seem right as the clutch has not been abused and should be good for alot more miles. Help, anybody with any antecdotal advice.
thanks

Hmmm...sports car...sports clutch. Unless you can prove the clutch was faulty I would get out my checkbook. Welcome to the wonderful world of Porsche....LOL

I replaced the non-abused clutch on my old C2 at about the same mileage.

This is a wear and tear item and won't be replaced by Porsche unless you can prove the clutch was faulty as JohnnyBeatles mentioned.

I have 28k on my 01, with no problems, but have ordered a Sachs Stage II from Stephen at Imagine Auto, since I am going to hybrid ZC k/16/24's. My tranny and engine are already out (long story), so labor is essentially free.

I would recommend to upgrade to a more robust clutch and only pay the labor at the dealer or where ever you take your car....you do not want to go stock and have to replace it in another 30-35k miles since it is your DD.

my clutch was replaced around 34K, so that sounds about right.

27,000 for rear tires? That is unbelievable. What kind of tires are you running?

Wow, I completely didn't even read that part....what kind of tires are on your car? I went through the stock 18" pirelli pzeros at about 11k miles, went to 18" PS2's for about a month (only upgraded the rims), then ordered some 19" Champions, and went through the 19" Pirellis in about 7k miles. And now have about 8k on my 19" PS's and they still look good. I only have 28k miles on my car and am on my 4th set of tires (rears) and 3rd set of fronts. Plus I just bought the 19" PS's from AZExoticLover he had for sale about 2 weeks ago.
