Some guys with fast cars don't want to take them to the dragstrip, but it's the only way to measure the power of a car on an equal playing field with reliable measuring equipment.

On another note, I personally saw Sharky's car trap at 115mph in the 1/8, when he grenaded his tranny (I had to wait for the tow truck ), that run would have been a 9 second pass for sure.

There are some Very fast 996TTs out there, the modded ones trap in the 130s on a regular basis, the only cars that are routinely faster are heavily modded single turbo Supras with built stroked motors and twin turbo Vipers (8.0 liter built motors) both of which a 996TT with stock suspension will out handle in the twisties.
Hehe thanks Joe, that was a sad day indeed! I have the video of that run and it doesn't sound very good lol... I'll post one day...

On another note... looks like the gt2s have some advantages... no PSM to deal with... and 300 lbs less weight...
Both of those advantages can give one .3 to .5 seconds faster ET... which is huge....
I hated my awd with PSM and the wheel hop.... my best 60 ft was only 1.74.

Isn't there a way to disable PSM completely (like removing a certain fuse)?

Pull the MAF, you'll lose ABS too.

I'm talking about cars with their stock motors that can be driven every day, run on pump gas and sit in rush hour traffic.

We don't see alot of those here in AZ.

When it comes to trap speed from street going cars I'm sure Porsche 996 TT and GT2s do not come top of the bragging rights list!

Just as long as you have it all in perspective. These are the best street cars in the world - none finer in my opinion - but one thing they ain't good at is drag racing!

I completely agree, I have been outrun at the track by cars with less power and lower trapspeeds that are setup to drag. The 996TT is probably about the most versatile (and durable) performance car around

from my understanding.. NO.. Sharky tried at the shoot out a few years back and almost had a major problem at the 1/4 track.
Thats why some go to a gt2 that doesnt have PSM.
you can do a RWD conversion and still maintain PSM... if done right it seems to work well.

The tts are not the best for 1/4... wheel hop, short first and second gear... PSM shuts down the TB, etc....
Thats why we have to spend $30K+ just to get into the 10s... but then I drive my TT to the track other 10 second cars do not. LOL
Joe work on that 60 ft. I know u can do better. drop the pressure to 17/18 psi... Thats how I did my 1.74 60ft.
good luck,
markski
