Inside cabin A/C filter? Where? Mildew !!

The mildew smell I get every time I turn on the A/C is killing me !!!!!! People have come with different approaches
1- Spray Lysol on the intake vent (where the filter sits)
2-Turn the Fan on- A/C off for few min
3- Change the Pollen/ Inside cabin filter- Maybe Mildew is growing there.

Where is the filter located at???? Its a 2004 TT 6 speed

Thanks

Divi

On my 2002 the filter is located under the bonnet.
Pop the hood, remove the plastic cover over the battery (center, back).
Remove the plastic cover right next to that on the passenger side.
You should see the filter there.
It is really easy to remove - just lift up and pull toward you. Shouldn't take > 3 minutes for everything.

Hope this helps......Rich

Klima-Cleaner - A/C Odor + Bacteria Cleaner
250 ml (8,5 fl oz)
| Removes bacteria and fungi from air conditioning units and ducting.
|Reduces allergens for clean, healthy, and fresher smelling air.

Don't mask odors with fragrances -- treat them. Klima-Cleaner is an effective means for removing odors from the air conditioning unit by eliminating odor-causing bacteria, fungi and other germs. Works by effectively cleaning the evaporator -- the source of the problem. Simply insert included spray hose into the center air vents in your vehicle's interior and spray. Allow to work for 30 minutes. Creates a healthy and fresh smelling environment that lasts for months.

I used to get this in my Audi as well - I found blasting the heater on full for 5 minutes usually got rid if it, but I'm sure changing the filter is a better solution. Also, turn off the AC compressor half a minute before you park, this should prevent the mildew.

Thank You guys for all the replies. Got the filter out ( front hood) Passenger side, turned on the A/C - Sprayed Some of the Lysol on the intake vent( where the filter sits). Filter was bad with mildew . I ordered a new one to be placed tomorrow.
Thank you guys for all the help.. The mildew smell is gone !!!!!!

BG "frigi-fresh" is a good product, too.

routine spraying (every so often) helps keep the bacteria down....

Also because of this thread, I ordered a charcoal filter online, and hope to install it this weekend. Thanks.
