Extended Warranty

My warranty is ending sometime next month.

I've never bought an extended warranty before; however, with a 996TT I figured it would be a good investment.

I'm curious as to what are the good ones out there. Also, what do I need to know/understand (coverage, deductable, etc.) in this regard...

Thanks!

I went with EZ care. 7 years and up to 60 K miles for under 2K. $100 deduct. They already paid for one MAF no questions.

The phone no. listed on my contract is 800-327-5172. I got mine through a dealer so it's possible that they might require an inspection before they offer a warranty but you should be able to call and get details.

I have had a few extended warranties in the past. I now have Mercury and am VERY happy. 1 week after buying my '02 Turbo, I had to have my 1st gear synchro replaced. It cost $7000. They paid for all of it (other warranties I had would low-ball the labor costs). No questions asked. I also had to have a pully replaced. I only paid $3500 for the warranty. I have had some nightmares with other companies. Not to say I won't have any problems with Mercury... But, so far so good. Their number is 800-654-8455.

secc911, did you have your entire transmission replaced? - I'm guessing so since $7K seems rather steep for just a synchro.

With extended warranties, they have to find-out what's wrong first. It cost $3500 to take it apart and look for the cause (if they were to determine that it was neglect, i would have been on the hook for the $3500. BTW I believe it was neglect by the previous owner). On top of that was the parts and labor to put it back together. I thought it was outrageous also. But, that builds even a stronger case for Mercury since they still picked up the entire cost. I guarantee you that most companies would have at least made me pick up a part of the cost.
