I still think that this notion is . As I've said earlier, there are cops in Malibu EVERY weekend and I know this because I ride my bikes up there just about EVERY weekend...(or my riding buddies do).

If the police are out to get us and are attempting to entrap us in order to issue license plate violations then they are taking a huge risk and wasting some serious time!!! If they were doing that then I would have no choice but to laugh in their faces for their amazing ability to waste time and resources... I sincerely hope that is the case!

Hey CHP, I'll be out again this weekend...I hope to see you all again soon!
I kind of agree with you, but it certainly doesn't help if members are posting runs on forums!

I work in Comp/NetForensics - InfoOps/Warfare (dont ask), this is easy to do. 1st, find the post and the IP it came from, if it came from the City of whoever, done deal. If the IP came from a residence, then find out who the residence belongs to, if a PoPo, again done deal... I doubt they would be smart or resourceful enough to use the local WiFi hot spot or spoof IP's (I question the legality of this anyway). Now who's the moderator of this site, they should keep IP's for a while (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Note to self, don't **** off this guy Seriously though, I'd love to see what pops up if 6speed admins followed your advise. Now, I'm really curious since it can be traced back!

This isn't entrapment even if the conspiracy theory were true.

IP information doesnt give you much details. You cannot find out who is using a particular IP address without going through the ISP. I seriously doubt they would give out this information unless the police came to them with a warrant.

Anyway, as someone else mentioned to think the police would waste time here setting people up to give them a front plate ticket is ridiculous. They could drive around and in 10 minutes see 10 cars without front plates..

Hey, I don't know who it was, my only question was why did the guy come on all these boards asking everyone to meet-up, not show-up, and then never post again? Just struck me as a bit off...but hey it's the internet, land of ****s and giggles.

Whether it was a setup or not, we'll never be completely sure because if it were, I'm positive that the CHP would keep it VERY secret. To think that they would not do anything like this is just plane naive. I'm not saying the dept. itself would do it, however officers within the dept. sure would. There are A LOT of dirty cops out there and if working hard a few days a month so they can take it easier for the rest of the month, I'm sure some would be happy to do so Anyway, hypothetically, if the conspiracy theory were true. I don't think the intent was to get a bunch of cars for front license plates. I think the intent is to catch Speeders and Racers. But by getting the cars that don't have front license plates, while not necessarily worth the paperwork, it sets a precedent to not come to these canyons to drive because they'll get you for anything they can.

Speeders = Tickets translate to income.
Racers = Fines, Impound and or complete confiscation of said vehicles. This translates to money for the towing companies, impound lots and big dollars per vehicle either through fines & court fees or through the outright sale of confiscated vehicle.

Do I completely buy into the conspiracy theory that we were set-up? Not completely, but I sure do have to admit, something smells fishy. The guy comes on and his only posts to date have to do with setting up a canyon run on a weekend where CHP does so large of a crackdown that it makes the newspaper. Something's just not right. As for it being entrapment or not if it were the CHP that posted as Turbo 951, it depends how good the lawyers are. I imagine the CHP's defense would be that they didn't set or post any direct route in which they would be set up, therefore it couldn't be entrapment. However, I believe a good lawyer would be able to prove that it is entrapment based on the fact that the main roads that are used for "recreational driving" are the very same roads that the CHP were staking out. And just the fact that they posted for a PCH MALIBU CANYON run would probably be enough burden of proof to show that this sting was indeed entrapment by setting up a run that would not have taken place had it not been for the thread on 6speed which lead to the Canyon run.

I love a good conspiracy so many variables to think about and without a few key witnesses stepping forward, it can never be proven or disproven.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a set up or if CHP monitors the boards. 951 turbo does seem a little suspicious; all his posts are for the Malibu run. Even his name is kind of suspicious, 951 turbo, any 944 person knows that 951 is already turbo so adding the second turbo is repetitive. Personally I would not go to any event organized by an unknown member. I recommend to anyone setting up a event like this to organize the specifics (date, time, location) through PM.

True. For an entrapment defense, you would need to argue that the PoPo put into your head that you should race, persuaded or coerced you into doing it, and that you wouldn't have done it anyway if they hadn't suggested it.

We'd pretty much have to delete every post in the database to clear that 3rd point

Pmac, I disagree. Police officers are not allowed hide behind signs, bushes etc. it is considered entrapment, yet nobody forced you to push the pedal harder. So that theory doesn't really work if you ask me.
