Short Shifter Recommendations!

Short Shifter Recommendations!
Hey!
So I decided on getting a short shifter for my car as the next mod. Any recommendations? I've been told from RPM racing that the only one that they really like and haven't had problems with is the RUF short shifter. I think they quoted me $540 installed. What do you guys think? Any better alternatives? Thanks!

Jason, I do not like the ones that bolt to the transmission (B&M makes that for a lot of companies). Instead use the one that Porsche uses (also a B&M part) and is commonly known as the "in-car" shifter.

I put a B&M in my 996 and then my tt - instructions were easy to follow and shifters have been working great on the street and the track (installs - 996 is about 3 years ago, tt about a year ago). I would recommend the B&M.

depends on what feel you want from the shifter.. there is basiclaly 3 types..
1.) b&m in car shifter - u change the actual shifter in your car, throw can be reduced from 20-40% i believe (correct me if i am wrong) but it will make the shift notchy.
2.)B&m under car shifter - they add an adjustment linkage in the bottom of the car near the transmission.. it reduces up to 30-35% i believe... shift engagement will be the same as stock... (ruf, techart etc makes the same style shift kit)
there have been cases that some dealers will not warranty tranny work on your car if you have these after market parts...
3.) Porsche short shift kit (Imo is the best) - it is an in car shifter which replaces your whole shifter assembly including the large plastic shifter carrier. throw is decreased up to 35% i believe. porsche will warranty your car bec it is a factory part... but it is a bit pricey. (from what i have heard a piece of the factory shift kit is actually made by b&m)
brandywine at times have good deals on the factory shifter..
i personally have the B&M in-car shifter but if given the chance i will buy the porsche in car shifter. and the under car one too, at one time i had both incar and under car shifter kits.. throw was really really short, i bought the b&m before i knew about the porsche short shift kit...

I would recommend getting the Porsche SSK. This way if you blow your sync rolls you may still get the tranny fixed under warranty. Yes Its a B&M but PNA has a hard on for after market shifters... I saw 3 trannies myself denied under warranty and all had the "2nd gear popping out issue". Oh I forgot...
I had mine luckly replaced under warranty 3 years ago- it had the B&M and the "2nd gear popping out issue"...
Spend the extra $200 and sleep with a peace of mind.
just my .02 cents

so i'm leaning toward the a porsche one since it's a stock item? how much is the oem porsche short shifter? and how does the 997 short shifter work? how much is typical install? i guess i have to get a dealer to install it then..

regular is like 500 i think but brandywine has a times sold them for cheaper like 350-400 i think.. best to give brandywine porsche a call... tell them u are 6speeder they usually give us a disc

The linkage needs to be set properly... that alone sometimes messes up the sync rolls... you may get away with it but I would not do if I had to again...
just my opinion.

I have both the RUF link and the B&M -- it made the Porsche feel like my S2000 - maybe even shorter throws! S2000 shifter still better though cuz the short shift kits made the shift effort a bit high.

I have the OE Porsche one that I purchased from Brandywine Porsche. Great deal and for only a few bucks more than the B&M, I have total peace of mind when I bring it to the dealer. The shifting is smooth and although it takes a little more effort, it is crisp and exactly what the car needs.
