911TT Salvage? Repair Cost?

Hello Everyone,
I've been looking for an 02 C4S for some time now and fell upon this 02 911TT. As everyone can tell it's been in an accident, but my question is how bad does it look to everyone else? I'm pretty sure the title won't be salvage, but how much do you guys think the repair cost would be? Parts/Labor Cost? And does anyone think there will be any long term problems? Please give me any input you may have.

Thanks

don't know yet, it suppose to come up for auction soon. How high would you bid on it if it does have a clean title?

I would say the damages would cost around 30-40 grand (but dont quote me), so I would not go over 45 grand when it goes to the auction. My experience with these types of cars, is that once damege like this has happend, the car will never drive the same again.

If the car had no damage, and it had under 10k miles, I would say it should be going in the lower 90's, but go to www.kbb.com to make sure. Chris Y. has had similar damage to his Turbo, you can PM him and ask him how much it is costing him to fix it.

if you can square the suspension on the chassis it will indeed "drive the same" again. As long as you do a quality repair. It was built once correctly, it can be built again correctly. The question is, can you rebuild it correctly for a reasonable amount of money that does not exceed the value of the car fixed? Most people can't, so they cut corners and the cars are never right again. To answer if you can, you have to be able to determine the extent of the damage, most of which cannot be seen form the photos, and you will not see until you start taking it apart...this includes components like subframes, suspension mouning points and drivetrain. Then you need to consider the vaue of the car if repaired. The market is pretty flooded with low mileage pristine cars with not a nick on them that are selling at very sad prices. I'd say something with a major repair would not fetch more that $65-70k tops everything else being perfect. Finally, I'd say that if you are posting this question, the answer is most likely that you cannot fix it within these limits. But I don't know you or the extent of your connections & abilities, so please forgive me if that is an incorrect assumption. My only point being that it usually takes lots of experience and the ability to pay wholesale (or less) for parts and labor to make it benificial. I'd be very surprised if the bid went over $40...

Wink Thanks for all your input!

DAVE W:
Your assumptions are absolutely correct, I don't have a clue about body work. My plan was to try to bid $35k-$40k for the vehicle and have a local Porsche body shop do the repairs and at the same time do some aftermarket upgrades (Techart bodykit and such). I am hoping the repairs won't go over $40k, but after everyone's input and the local estimate from body shops I don't think it's going to be possible. If anyone else has any input please feel free to do so and I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome of this auction.

Better have your body man assess the damage before you start bidding. Once repaired, the value of the car will be about 75% of a non-wrecked turbo. The cost to repair, plus salvage value, plus mods may very well exceed the value. IMHO, I'd run from this one.

I wanted to go this route one time when the 930s were around as I didn't have the $ to buy a straight one. This is almost never a good deal. This only really works out if you yourself are a competent body guy and you "save" on the cost of repairs. There was a guy who did this with a 993 C4S (don't remember the website) and he was pretty happy with it. But you gotta be hands on to get any kind of savings. Remember, any little clip, sensor or part from Porsche is going to be hundreds of dollars.

Plus I forgot all the ancillary stuff. Cars that are damaged are no longer "pampered". That thing has been moved around with a forklift probably (undercarriage scraping, or worse). Cold started a few times....but since the coolant is probably out of it, maybe not. And my favorite of all, baking in the sun from the day of the accident right up until it goes to the bodyshop's garage. And whatever fallout there is around there (industrial, birds, etc) gets to be baked onto the paint as well. Oh I also forgot about every grease monkey climbing in and out of the car. Porsches don't exactly have durable interiors. Yeah, the more I think about this, the more you should be looking at getting a great deal off a non accident car.

C4SxM5...

My TT was in an accident with similar damage to the front end. The initial estimate came out to over $65k and the other party's insurance opted to total the vehicle as the car would need to be shipped to Los Angeles (from Hawaii) for frame repair.
